Simms Named Chief Executive Officer of Habif, Arogeti & Wynne; Firm Adopts CEO/COO Management Model.

ATLANTA, Oct. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- J. Dan Simms, 47, has been named managing partner and chief executive officer (CEO) of Habif, Arogeti & Wynne, LLP, Georgia's largest independent accounting and business advisory firm. In a planned transition, Simms replaces Managing Partner Jonathan Miller, 56, who will remain at the firm serving clients and assisting the new management team. Marc Kanne, who has been at the firm for 33 years, has been named chief operating officer (COO) of the firm. Both positions become effective on Jan. 1, 2004.

"HA&W is poised to grow in new ways and build upon what Jon achieved over the last 10 years," said Simms. "Our reputation and expertise are unmatched. The new management team understands the rich tradition of the firm and is forward thinking in its plans to build upon the firm's track record of success. We are also fortunate that Jon will continue to serve as a resource to the firm -- providing continuity through the transition."

Miller has led the firm through steady growth in his nearly 10 years at its helm as the firm grew to one of the top 100 accounting firms in the nation. During his tenure, annual revenue grew from $10 million to $22 million while the number of employees increased less than 10 percent, highlighting the efficiency of the firm's staff. The firm also increased its involvement in the community and the accounting profession with members serving on a number of committees through the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Georgia Society of CPAs, as well as chairing the State Board of Accountancy.

Under Miller's management, the firm organized into industry practice areas in order to expand knowledge and expertise in these areas. It also diversified its service offerings, and converted to a largely paperless environment -- becoming an industry leader in technology. Miller joined the firm in 1970 and was named a partner in 1976.

"The CEO and COO model will allow Marc and Dan to guide our firm while providing them with time to remain close to their clients," said Miller, noting that the approach is distinctive in the industry. "This is another example of our firm adopting best practices and looking for ways to constantly improve and better serve our clients, knowing that their success is our bottom line. Dan is highly respected within our firm, and throughout our industry, for his vision and leadership qualities. Marc is known for his management skills and knowledge of the inner workings of our business. This combination of leadership is ideal for our clients and us."

Simms has been with HA&W for 22 years. In his role as CEO, he will direct the firm's overall strategic planning process and long-term growth plans. Most recently, Simms served as director of the firm's real estate and retail practice group. Simms represents clients in the construction and real estate industries, non-profit organizations, governmental organizations, and the hospitality industry.

An active community citizen, he is a member of the American Institute of CPAs, Georgia Society of CPAs, International Council of Shopping Centers, Atlanta Apartment Association and the Midtown Business Association. He is a frequent speaker at AICPA conferences and recognized as a leader in technological innovation within the accounting profession. Simms received his bachelor's in business administration from the University of Louisville.

"Our aim is to expand the reach of our firm and the awareness of the services we can provide all industry segments and business types," said Simms. "We are confident about the growth opportunities we see and the untapped potential for our firm to evolve and excel.

"This strategic management transition will provide us momentum and focus in 2004 and beyond."

Kanne, 55, most recently served as director of the Financial Advisory and Tax Group at HA&W. As COO, he will be responsible for internal operations of HA&W. He is experienced in individual, partnership, and corporate taxation, specializing in individual and corporate tax planning and retirement planning. He is a member of AICPA, the GSCPA, the North Atlanta Tax Council, and the Atlanta Jewish Federation. Kanne received his bachelor's in business administration from the University of Georgia.
