Silverstein Institute's grand opening. (Editorial).Friday, March 28, 2003, will be the grand opening of the wonderful new Silverstein Institute in Sarasota, Florida Sarasota is a city located in Sarasota County on the central west coast of Florida, USA. Its official limits include Sarasota Bay and several barrier islands between the bay and the Gulf of Mexico. . Marlene and I accepted the invitation of Dr. Herbert Silverstein to be the first to visit and tour this all-new, one-of-a-kind, $7-million, 30,000-square-foot facility in January. This impressive three-story institute is staffed by five otolaryngologists, offering the latest diagnosis and treatment for diseases and disorders of the head, neck, ear, nose, and throat-including facial plastic surgery. On the first floor are 11 examination rooms, four minor-surgery rooms, and reception and support areas. Included in the Ear Research Foundation are a surgical training and research laboratory with seven stations; the Harold Schuknecht Conference Center, which will hold 75 people; and the Jean-Bernard Causse Medical Library. The third floor will house a clinical laboratory and physicians' offices. The new clinic has its own extensive surface parking and landscaping and is built adjacent to the Florida Ear and Sinus sinus, cavity or hollow space in the body, usually filled with air or blood. In humans the paranasal sinuses, mucus-lined cavities in the bones of the face, are connected by passageways to the nose and probably help to warm and moisten inhaled air.
