SilverBack Announces Software Security Enhancements; Solution Providers Profit from Ability to Deliver Comprehensive Managed Firewall Services.

BILLERICA, Mass. -- SilverBack(R) Technologies, Inc., the industry's leading provider of integrated network A network that supports both data and voice and/or different networking protocols. See converged network and new public network. , systems, application and security monitoring software for the midtier, today announced enhanced monitoring and security capabilities to the SilverBack software suite. The new security alerting capabilities enable partners to sell and profit from more sophisticated managed firewall services. The security enhancements utilize the existing SilverBack console so that partners can realize immediate revenue opportunities as well as preserve the existing equipment investment - both in SilverBack - and in their clients' deployed infrastructure.

"Security firewalls are the first line of defense in securing corporate networks from malicious attacks on the Internet - but catastrophic security leaks can occur if they're not properly maintained and monitored," said John Igoe, Chief Operating Officer Chief Operating Officer (COO)

The officer of a firm responsible for day-to-day management, usually the president or an executive vice-president.
at SilverBack. "Firewalls begin to age as soon as they're installed. Solution providers have a lucrative business opportunity here since small and medium-sized companies typically don't have the staff or time required to maintain constant vigilance on the firewall."

The SilverBack software enhancements provide more sophisticated monitoring of security policies and the overall health of firewalls including: authentication issues; fail-over conditions; Denial of Service A condition in which a system can no longer respond to normal requests. See denial of service attack.  (DoS) attacks; dropped traffic and associated applications and ports; routing errors, VPN (Virtual Private Network) A private network that is configured within a public network (a carrier's network or the Internet) in order to take advantage of the economies of scale and management facilities of large networks.  failures, IDS "Ping of Death A ping request that crashes the target computer. It is caused by an invalid packet size value in the packet header. There are patches for most operating systems to prevent it. See denial of service attack. ," and probing attempts. SilverBack also monitors the overall system health of the firewall for such performance metrics Performance metrics are measures of an organizations activities and performance. , memory, disk, and latency to assure it is filtering and processing security events optimally.

The security capabilities will provide additional relief for those midtier corporations who are increasing the use of the Internet for day-to-day business operations Business operations are those activities involved in the running of a business for the purpose of producing value for the stakeholders. Compare business processes. The outcome of business operations is the harvesting of value from assets , and as a result, must deal with a growing number of Internet-based corporate network attacks. A Forbes Magazine report found that a typical security break-in can cost an average $98K in user access costs. Capitalizing on its strengths in combining security and network management in one integrated view, SilverBack software isolates genuine security attacks from legitimate surges in traffic that mimic DoS attacks - eliminating unnecessary network shut downs.

Solution providers gain from operational enhancements in the new software release including:

--Faster and more precise alerts on security issues and other network events for faster identification and resolution.

--Intelligent filtering to more easily sort, analyze and aggregate up to gigabytes of daily logs generated by firewalls into meaningful events for easy prioritization and remediation.

--Automatic noise elimination by mining and alerting for the most relevant security issues.

--Consolidation of events from multiple security devices in the overall IT infrastructure; presented in easy-to-use and actionable formats.

--Enhanced alerting capabilities (i.e., severity and conditional) to more precisely track, delegate and resolve events that could degrade service, resulting in better customer response and profitable service delivery.

"SilverBack has raised the bar once again with these new security monitoring enhancements to SilverBack software, which make a valuable product even more valuable," said Danny Johnston, President and CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. SilverBack's new firewall monitoring and security capabilities compliment existing features focused on protecting internal resources, including intrusion monitoring, patch management The installation of patches from a software vendor onto an organization's computers. Patching thousands of PCs and servers is a major issue. A patch should be applied to test machines first before deployment, and the testing environments must represent all the users' PCs with their unique , and vulnerability scanning. There are currently more than 1000 end-customer accounts that use SilverBack's software in their IT infrastructures. SilverBack's software supports the market-leading firewalls for small-to-medium business and enterprise environments including Cisco Pix History
