Silicon Wave Expands Participation in Development of Bluetooth Specifications; New ``Associate Member'' Status Increases Role in Bluetooth Special Interest Group.Business Editors SAN DIEGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 14, 2000 Silicon Wave Inc. announced today it has been granted a new position as Associate Member of the Bluetooth Special Interest Group The Bluetooth Special Interest Group (SIG) is the body that oversees the development of Bluetooth standards and the licensing of the Bluetooth technologies and trademarks to manufacturers. (SIG). The Bluetooth SIG recently created Associate Member standing to offer innovative companies, such as Silicon Wave, a greater role in defining the Bluetooth specification. As an Associate Member, Silicon Wave will have early access to new developments in the Bluetooth technology and be allowed to become involved in SIG technical working groups, expert groups and marketing subgroups. "The SIG welcomes Silicon Wave's increased participation in the working groups," said Simon Ellis of Intel Corp. and marketing chairman of the Bluetooth SIG. "We look forward to Silicon Wave's contributions to the Bluetooth Special Interest Group." Associate Members can participate in Working Groups only if granted permissions from the Bluetooth SIG and Promoter companies. Currently, Silicon Wave is a member on both the Bluetooth Architecture Review Board (BARB) and Personal Area Network (PAN) Working Group. Silicon Wave's selection as Associate Member was sponsored by 3COM (1) (Computer Output Microfilm) Creating microfilm or microfiche from the computer. A COM machine receives print-image output from the computer either online or via tape or disk and creates a film image of each page. Corp., one of nine Promoter companies responsible for overall development and promotion of Bluetooth wireless technology. "The opportunities presented as a SIG Associate will benefit Silicon Wave and, ultimately, the OEMs depending on availability of viable Bluetooth solutions," said Steve Brown Steve Brown is the name of more than one person of note:
Selection to a SIG Working Group is conducted through a process of peer review. Once Silicon Wave submitted its statement of intent and supporting information, a committee of SIG Promoter and Associate members approved the company's position in the PAN Working Group. Similarly, Silicon Wave's election to the BARB was the result of review and consideration by all nine SIG Promoters. Given its increased influence and visibility within the Bluetooth SIG, Silicon Wave will be able to better address OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) The rebranding of equipment and selling it. The term initially referred to the company that made the products (the "original" manufacturer), but eventually became widely used to refer to the organization that buys the products and needs while working simultaneously to assist strategic implementation of the wireless technology. The PAN Working Group is focused on defining the personal networking specifications in future releases of the Bluetooth specification. The BARB assesses the recommendations of all of the technical Working Groups and validates them for inclusion in future versions of the Bluetooth specification. In this fashion, an Associate member such as Silicon Wave can partake in Verb 1. partake in - be active in participate, take part - share in something 2. partake in - have, give, or receive a share of; "We shared the cake" partake, share drafting technical blueprints for the next-generation of Bluetooth wireless communications wireless communications System using radio-frequency, infrared, microwave, or other types of electromagnetic or acoustic waves in place of wires, cables, or fibre optics to transmit signals or data. . "Silicon Wave is in an excellent position with its seats on both the BARB and PAN Working Group," said Silicon Wave's Terry Bourk, senior director, Advanced Products for Silicon Wave. "It is a tremendous vote of confidence for a company of our size to sit at the same table as the SIG Promoter companies. Better yet, we have equal input on how Bluetooth specifications are created and implemented in the various releases. This access and ability to be a participant solidifies Silicon Wave's position as a leader in Bluetooth RF solutions."
