TestPilot is designed for quality assurance professionals in telecommunications Communicating information, including data, text, pictures, voice and video over long distance. See communications. , manufacturing and other industries that rely on mobile or remote manual testing. TestPilot is tightly integrated with SVN's TestExpert(TM), the leading automated test management solution for hardware and software product developers.

Silicon Valley Networks' TestPilot enables structured manual test routines to be executed remotely on Palm Computing's PalmPilot or Palm III The Palm III was the first PDA in the Palm III lineup and is also Palm Computing's first handheld to support infrared file transfer and a Flash ROM capable operating system. The first Palm IIIs went on sale in 1998. (TM) connected organizers. Test cases are downloaded to the Palm Computing computing - computer  devices from the TestPilot Desktop using a HotSync(R) connection and a PalmPilot cradle. Test cases are selected for execution from a tree view of available tests using the connected organizer stylus stylus: see pen.

. The user is then prompted through step-by-step test instructions. Upon completion of the test the user is prompted to enter test results and other test-related data. The test results can then be uploaded to the TestPilot Desktop using a HotSync connection and merged with other test results in the TestExpert repository to take advantage of TestExpert's query and reporting capabilities. TestPilot users can now run, track, audit, retrieve, reuse reuse - Using code developed for one application program in another application. Traditionally achieved using program libraries. TestPilot was initially developed at the request of Adaptec Incorporated, a leading manufacturer of high-speed data transfer solutions. Adaptec's quality assurance engineers execute hundreds of compatibility tests for each new product release cycle. Adaptec realized that they could dramatically improve quality and efficiency of these tests by providing a way to develop, deploy and execute structured manual tests in their various labs.

"TestPilot will permit us to be consistent in our test methods, improve our overall efficiency, and perhaps most important, gather accurate statistics on our current process," said Dick Toepfer, Director of SSG SSG

SVN's TestPilot was built for the Palm Computing devices with the enterprise user in mind. QA Managers, Test Engineers and Test Operators can now use the same device for both personal productivity and the enterprise applications that define their business.

"TestPilot demonstrates how enterprise users can become even more productive using the Palm Computing devices and tightly integrated vertical applications from industry leaders such as Silicon Valley Networks," said Mark Bercow, Vice President of Strategic Alliances and Platform Development at Palm Computing, a 3Com Corporation.

TestPilot is an add-on to the TestExpert automated test management system from Silicon Valley Networks. TestPilot requires Palm Computing's PalmPilot or Palm III(TM) connected organizers running Palm OS version 2.0 or greater. TestPilot will ship in early August from SVN.
