Silicon Laboratories Expands Industry-Leading Small Form Factor Microcontroller Product Family.

AUSTIN, Texas -- Silicon Laboratories Inc. (Nasdaq:SLAB) today announced the expansion of its small form factor family of mixed-signal microcontrollers (MCUs) with the addition of four new small memory option devices, the C8051F332 product family, that are pin-for-pin compatible with Silicon Laboratories' popular small form factor product family. Silicon Laboratories offers the industry's leading portfolio of small form factor, high-performance mixed-signal MCUs; these mixed-signal devices deliver more functionality in a small package than any other MCU (1) (MicroController Unit) A computer on a single chip. See microcontroller.

(2) (Multipoint Control Unit) A device that is used to moderate a videoconference of three or more end points (users at computers or groups of users
 on the market.

Based on Silicon Laboratories' high-speed pipelined 8051 core, the C8051F332 product family features 25 MIPS (Million Instructions Per Second) The execution speed of a computer. For example, .5 MIPS is 500,000 instructions per second; 100 MIPS is a hundred million instructions per second. , 2 to 8 kB Flash and 768 B RAM in a tiny 4 x 4 mm package. These highly-integrated devices eliminate external components such as crystal oscillators making them ideal for space-constrained, low-power consumer, industrial and communications applications.

The C8051F332 product family integrates on-chip peripherals such as a 10-bit 200 ksps ADC (1) See A/D converter.

(2) (Apple Display Connector) A peripheral connector from Apple that combines digital video display, USB and power in one cable.

. On-board serial communication peripherals include UART (Universal Asynchronous Receiver Transmitter) The electronic circuit that makes up the serial port. Also known as "universal serial asynchronous receiver transmitter" (USART), it converts parallel bytes from the CPU into serial bits for transmission, and vice , SMBus(TM) and SPI (1) (Stateful Packet Inspection) See stateful inspection.

"Silicon Laboratories mixed-signal MCU portfolio uniquely addresses the broad range of applications where space constraints traditionally have resulted in performance trade-offs. Our new small form factor devices, like the rest of our small form factor portfolio, offer a very small footprint without sacrificing performance," said Derrell Coker, vice president of Silicon Laboratories.

The C8051F332 includes on-chip 2-wire (C2) debug To correct a problem in hardware or software. Debugging software means locating the errors in the source code (the program logic). Debugging hardware means finding errors in the circuit design (logical circuits) or in the physical interconnections of the circuits.  circuitry that provides non-intrusive, full-speed, in-circuit debugging of the production part before and after installation with no emulator required. Like all Silicon Laboratories MCU products, the C8051F332 products are supported with a complete, low-cost professional development kit that includes everything required to immediately begin the system design: IDE, target board, cables and power supply.

Pricing and Availability

The C8051F332 is packaged in a 20-pin QFN QFN Quad Flat No-Lead
QFN Queen Fan Newsletter (rock band)
QFN Quad Flat No Leads
. Pricing begins at $1.38 in quantities of 10,000 and a complete development kit is available for $99. To buy online please visit www.silabs.com/MCUselector.
