Significant Ease-of-Use and Productivity Enhancements in Statemate MAGNUM Enable Users to Further Cut Development Cycles; I-Logix Ships Statemate MAGNUM 2.1.

Business/Technology Editors

ANDOVER, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 18, 2000

I-Logix Inc., a leading provider of enterprise solutions for embedded applications development, today announced that Statemate MAGNUM MAGNUM - A database language for DEC-10's, used internally by Tymshare, Inc.. MAGNUM was designed in the late 1970's by Dale Jordan, Rich Strauss and Dave McQuoid originally, and was written in BLISS-10. It was the world's first commercial relational database.  2.1 is now shipping. With its substantial workflow improvements, system engineers can now create specification models more quickly, allowing them to focus on engineering and analysis tasks rather than the modeling effort. In addition, Statemate MAGNUM 2.1's new ease-of-use enhancements enable new users to take advantage of the product's capabilities with less training.

This boosts productivity by allowing engineering teams to create electronic visual specifications with Statemate MAGNUM that can be communicated to suppliers and implementation teams, greatly reducing errors due to misinterpretation of textual documents. With Rhapsody in MicroC, suppliers in turn can provide visual software models and associated code back to the engineering teams for comparison with the original specifications, all based on a common electronic representation.  automation capabilities have been added to let system engineers easily and quickly capture functional and behavioral test scenarios, drastically reducing the amount of time spent defining test scenarios and testing the final product.

"Statemate MAGNUM has become the de-facto standard for systems design in the automotive and the aerospace industries," said Richard Boldt, I-Logix' director of Statemate MAGNUM and Rhapsody in MicroC product marketing. "Because Statemate MAGNUM has expanded beyond the experts to the serial production teams, I-Logix has worked with many of our key customers to make Statemate MAGNUM more accessible for mainstream users. The ease-of-use, workflow, process integration enhancements, integration with Rhapsody in MicroC and test automation capabilities are just the latest examples of how I-Logix is helping engineers better handle today's design challenges."

Statemate MAGNUM 2.1 Features

New Statemate MAGNUM 2.1 features include:

--Ease-of-Use Enhancements: Statemate MAGNUM 2.1 now allows engineers to create models faster through improvements to the graphics editors and the user interface. Workflow utilities, including an Interactive Check Model tool that dynamically allows users to find problems in a model, were also added. An automatic panel builder enables users to debug To correct a problem in hardware or software. Debugging software means locating the errors in the source code (the program logic). Debugging hardware means finding errors in the circuit design (logical circuits) or in the physical interconnections of the circuits.  models quickly by creating mock-ups of user interfaces with the push of a button.

--Tighter Integration with Rhapsody in MicroC: With the 2.1 release, Statemate MAGNUM and Rhapsody in MicroC now work from the same database, serving as different views of the same model. This provides the automotive industry The automotive industry is the industry involved in the design, development, manufacture, marketing, and sale of motor vehicles. In 2006, more than 69 million motor vehicles, including cars and commercial vehicles were produced worldwide.  with the complete path from concept-to-code by enabling system engineers to create an electronic specification in Statemate MAGNUM and then send that model to the software engineer, who adds design information and integrates the feature code with the target. This tighter integration also provides a return path if any changes to the functionality or behavior of the model are required.

--Test Vector Automation: Statemate MAGNUM provides system engineers with a method to quickly and easily capture functional and behavioral test scenarios. Engineers can use these test vectors to perform regression checks on the Statemate MAGNUM model or to validate that the final implementation meets the specifications. These test vectors are captured as a bi-product of the specification process, saving time in both the test creation process and the debugging (programming) debugging - The process of attempting to determine the cause of the symptoms of malfunctions in a program or other system. These symptoms may be detected during testing or use by real users.  cycles.

--Process Integration: In 2.1, Statemate MAGNUM has been opened up for tighter and easier integration into the end-users' process. An API has been added that allows model elements to be created or modified outside of the tool, and a command line interface is now available to enable the user to run batch processes or to integrate Statemate MAGNUM into other tools.

--Vector CANoe Interface: With 2.1, users now have the ability of defining and simulating an entire distributed system See distributed computing.

virtually on any PC. With the Vector CANoe interface, users can now describe the serial bus behavior and messaging in addition to defining the functionality and behavior of the microprocessor and software with Statemate MAGNUM.

--Mathworks Simulink Interface: The combination of Statemate MAGNUM 2.1 and Mathworks Simulink enables users to simulate an entire system and its environment to ensure it has been specified properly. Users can describe the embedded Inserted into. See embedded system.  system's functionality and behavior with Statemate MAGNUM while using Simulink to describe the dynamics of the system.

"With Statemate MAGNUM, our engineers have been able to validate their designs prior to software development, reducing the number of software iterations and thus development time," said Gary Aldrich Gary Aldrich is a former FBI agent and author from Amsterdam, New York.Born May, 22, 1945 in Amsterdam, NY. "We are excited about the continued integration between Statemate MAGNUM and Rhapsody in MicroC because, as we begin developing our models for future programs, we can provide our suppliers with a Statemate MAGNUM specification and a set of test cases to develop these systems against, improving the quality of our requirements and freeing up internal resources. Using I-Logix' tools - both Statemate MAGNUM 2.1 and Rhapsody in MicroC - our suppliers can develop and deliver their electronic modules with more confidence of first-time success than with previous methods."

"I-Logix' Statemate MAGNUM 2.1 is going to speed up the time it takes our teams to build models," said Michael Dickerson Michael DeAngelo Dickerson (born June 25 1975 in Greenville, South Carolina) is a retired American professional basketball player who was a member of the Houston Rockets and Vancouver/Memphis Grizzlies. . "The product brings several key improvements - most notably its ease-of-use and customization features. We are already planning to expand the interfaces to Statemate MAGNUM. We're most excited about the advantage our engineers will gain with the product's capabilities on projects currently in progress."
