Sigma Designs Introduces HD UWB-over-Coax Home Networking Video Streaming Solution for the Digital Home at NAB 2007.

New hybrid solution enables best quality video streaming See streaming video and video stream.  for whole home coverage

LAS VEGAS Las Vegas (läs vā`gəs), city (1990 pop. 258,295), seat of Clark co., S Nev.; inc. 1911. It is the largest city in Nevada and the center of one of the fastest-growing urban areas in the United States.  -- Sigma Designs (Nasdaq:SIGM), the leader in digital media processing See media control.  for consumer electronics, will demonstrate its new UWB-over-Coax home networking video streaming solution at the NAB 2007 conference in Las Vegas from April 16-19, 2007. Available immediately, the Sigma Windeo[R] Mini-PCI Coax/Wireless Development Kit enables a whole home networking and video streaming solution between high definition consumer electronics products over already existing coaxial cables throughout a home. A hybrid solution, it also offers a wireless in-room connection so HD products can be located anywhere in a room for true mobility. Demonstrations of this technology are available at Sigma's private suite (#360) at the Hilton hotel which is connected to the Las Vegas Convention Center The Las Vegas Convention Center is owned and operated by the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority and is located in Clark County, Nevada. It is one of the largest Convention centers in the world. At the end of 2004, the center had 3. .

"Sigma makes it possible for consumers to have the best wired and wireless technologies in their digital homes," said Hung Nguyen, vice president and general manager, Wireless Products Division at Sigma Designs. "We are committed to providing the world's largest consumer electronics companies with the most reliable hybrid solutions to stream the best quality of video between high definition products like HDTVs, DVD players, and IPTV (Internet Protocol TV) Also called "TV over IP," IPTV delivers scheduled TV programs and video-on-demand (VOD) via the IP protocol and digital streaming techniques used to watch video on the Internet.  set-boxes located anywhere in the home."

Sigma's UWB-over-Coax solutions are powered by the Sigma's Windeo[R] chipsets and allow multiple HD video streaming contents with 1080p resolution format to be distributed to multiple rooms over a coaxial cable network. Sigma's technologies also enable the video content to travel up to 100 meters (approx. 328 ft.) over the IP multicast A one-to-many transmission of data over an IP network. It is used for a myriad of purposes including updating routers, announcing and discovering services and streaming media. IP multicast saves network bandwidth, because packets are transmitted as one stream over the backbone and only  protocol. For wireless video streaming in the same room, the Windeo[R] chipset transmits multiple HD video contents over-the-air to multiple HDTVs and other high definition products simultaneously.

Today's digital home networking requires communication technology with high bandwidth to distribute multiple high definition contents simultaneously, highest Quality of Service (QoS) , long range capability to cover the whole home, and wireless connectivity to achieve mobility and convenience. UWB (Ultra-WideBand) A wireless technology that uses less power and provides higher speed than 802.11 Wi-Fi networks or first-generation Bluetooth products. UWB is expected to provide wireless video transmission for home theater systems, cable TV, auto safety and  technology with hybrid coax/wireless offers a new alternative to other wired and wireless technologies with regards to these requirements. The Windeo[R] chipset is based on the most popular and world-wide WiMedia[R] standard for UWB which operates above 3.1Ghz, hence, it coexists with CATV (Community Antenna TV) The original name for cable TV. It used a single antenna at the highest location in the community in order to deliver a quality signal to homes in areas with hilly terrain or other interference.  signaling that is below 1.0Ghz in frequency.

"As many U.S. homes already have existing coaxial cables, Sigma's UWB-over-Coax solution will ultimately offer consumers home installation cost savings, the best home networking video streaming solution, a trusted whole home coaxial backbone connection and wireless connection in each room," commented Nguyen.

Sigma UWB-over-Coax Development Kits

Sigma Designs' Windeo[R] Development boards and the Sigma's Vantage 8634 IP-STB Development Kits are available to help developers create complete broadband home networking and HD video streaming solution for digital home products. In addition, the Windeo[R] Mini-PCI Coax/Wireless Development board is comprised of the WiMedia-based all-CMOS UWB RF chip and Baseband chip.
