Siemens and Invivo Partner to Offer Computer-Aided-Detection System For MRI; DynaCAD to be Integrated with MAGNETOM MRI Systems.

MALVERN, Pa. & PEWAUKEE, Wis. -- Siemens Medical Solutions Siemens Medical Solutions (Siemens Med) is a supplier to the healthcare industry, and is headquartered in Erlangen, Germany. Its U.S. division, Siemens Medical Solutions USA, Inc., is a Delaware corporation, with headquarters in Malvern, Pennsylvania.  (NYSE NYSE

) today announced a strategic partnership that will integrate Invivo's computer-aided-detection (CAD) system with Siemens' MAGNETOM magnetic resonance imaging magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), noninvasive diagnostic technique that uses nuclear magnetic resonance to produce cross-sectional images of organs and other internal body structures.  (MRI 1. ) systems for advanced breast MRI technology. DynaCAD(TM) will provide radiologists with more detailed information for breast MRI exams to assist doctors in detecting disease earlier and streamline workflow by managing the large volume of images involved in today's studies.

"Breast cancer is the most common malignancy among women in the United States and is second only to lung cancer lung cancer, cancer that originates in the tissues of the lungs. Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer death in the United States in both men and women. Like other cancers, lung cancer occurs after repeated insults to the genetic material of the cell.  in all cancer-related deaths," said Nancy Gillen, vice president, MRI Division, Siemens Medical Solutions. "It is essential to identify and administer treatment at an early stage. The combination of Siemens' MRI technologies and Invivo's CAD system will supply doctors with a powerful tool that enables them to diagnose breast disease in patients earlier."

With an estimated 211,240 new breast cancer cases expected to occur and a prediction of 40,410 related deaths in the U.S. in 2005(1), the need for earlier detection is evident. DynaCAD is an advanced CAD system for analyzing magnetic resonance magnetic resonance, in physics and chemistry, phenomenon produced by simultaneously applying a steady magnetic field and electromagnetic radiation (usually radio waves) to a sample of atoms and then adjusting the frequency of the radiation and the strength of the  images, providing physicians with a number of new tools for improving their diagnostic confidence, workflow and throughput.

The system consists of five functional modules:

--DynaMATCH(TM) - Selectable 2D/3D image registration for suppression of image motion artifacts artifacts

 and automatic image subtraction

--DynaMAP(TM) - Functional color parameter maps to visualize changes in MRI signal intensity

--DynaMIP(TM) - Dynamic maximum intensity projections for interactive functional 3D visualization

--DynaFLOW(TM) - Interactive access to time-intensity curve data

--DynaLOC(TM) - Automatic calculation of target coordinates for MRI-guided interventions for improved speed and accuracy

"We look forward to expanding our collaborative efforts with Siemens by providing their MAGNETOM customers with the best possible solutions for MRI mammography mammography, diagnostic procedure that uses low-dose X rays to detect abnormalities in the breasts. The early diagnosis of breast cancer made possible by the routine use of mammography for screening women increases a woman's treatment alternatives and improves her ," said Thomas Tynes, director, Interventional MRI Business Group, Invivo Corporation. "The addition of DynaCAD to the existing line of Siemens-certified Invivo breast MRI coils and biopsy systems provides a comprehensive, fully-integrated approach to breast MRI diagnostics and intervention."

The integrated solution of DynaCAD and Siemens' MRI systems will be distributed by Siemens on a worldwide basis for MAGNETOM MRI users and includes the MAGNETOM Trio(TM), MAGNETOM Espree(TM), MAGNETOM Avanto(TM) and MAGNETOM Symphony(TM). Invivo currently provides a wide variety of Siemens-certified products for the MRI mammography market, and the introduction of DynaCAD further expands this partnership by providing a complete solution approach to MRI breast care.
