Siemens Upgrades Charging System for Indonesian Operator Telkomsel.

Indonesia's largest mobile operator P.T. Telekomunikasi Selular (Telkomsel) has ordered Siemens' charge@once online charging solution in anticipation of upcoming market requirements imposed by highly segmented business models and emerging mobile data services. The Siemens (NYSE:SI)(FWB:SIE) contract with Telkomsel represents a frame-agreement with an initial call-off value of around 50 Mio. Euro. Geneva, an application for rating and billing from Convergys Corporation comes as an integral part of this solution.

The coupling of Geneva with Siemens' charge@once enables Telkomsel for the first time to charge for the services in real-time while using one rating solution. This allows Telkomsel to offer prepaid and postpaid customers new services under flexible conditions. The Siemens charging solution makes it possible for Telkomsel to check credit limits in real-time, freely adjust charges and product packages, and set up bonus programs for its customers. An additional benefit for Telkomsel is the improved ease of administration and operation of the convergent system.

In the past online charging systems were used primarily for prepaid customers. Charge@once however can handle both prepaid and postpaid transactions in real time. Regardless of their chosen payment method, pre- or post-paid, subscribers can quickly check usage limits and status of account balances.
