In Release 14.E, Siemens Stromberg-Carlson will provide the first Local Number Portability offering on the market today designed to enable service providers to meet regulatory and legislative demands. Deployment of this capability is essential to allow a number of the existing local service providers to enter other lucrative lines of business, such as long distance service.

Advanced Centrex Capabilities, Including Improved Remote Access for Work-at-Home Applications

As the workplace continues to evolve to include telecommuters and business people working on the road, service providers are required to offer advanced Centrex services such as Remote Access to Business Facilities to provide effective communication solutions.

Release 14.E introduces Remote Access to Private and Public Facilities which enables an authorized caller to access the facilities and capabilities of a Centrex group located at the EWSD switch.

New State-of-the-Art Centrex Attendant Console An attendant console is a telephone station that is generally part of a private branch exchange (PBX) or Centrex or other private telephone system. An attendant console generally is a regular PBX telephone station with one or more additional modules each bearing numerous buttons  Platform and Capabilities

New generation attendant call handling CPE (Customer Premises Equipment) Communications equipment that resides on the customer's premises.

Interworking depends crucially on standards to define the interfaces between the components.  capabilities. These additional capabilities will provide for full-functioned attendant handling capabilities on a state-of-the-art platform.

Enhanced EKTS Business Group Applications

Even as National ISDN EKTS becomes more widespread in business environments, the continued predominance of analog instruments in the business groups makes the need for ISDN-analog interworking increasingly important. Among the new EKTS service options offered in Release 14.E is Calling Number Display on Analog Member which allows an EKTS analog user to receive the calling number for call terminations. Other new features include Calling Name Delivery on Analog Member and Visual Message Waiting Indication on Analog Member.

Command and Control Workstation Enhances Ability to Control Centrex Facilities

Siemens Stromberg-Carlson's new Centrex Command and Control Workstation provides a graphical interface See GUI.  to the Centrex user for access and control of their facilities. Capabilities include collection of traffic, maintenance and Message Detail Recording data, trunk testing and control of Authorization Codes, Outgoing Facility Queuing, Time of Day Redirection, Alternate Facility Restriction and Automatic Flexible Routing. Both economical and flexible, this IBM-compatible, PC-based platform provides excellent revenue opportunities to the local service provider.

Enhanced TR303 to Support Central Office Consolidation

As service providers move to cut network and operating costs through central office consolidation and the use of Next Generation Integrated Digital Loop Carriers In telephone communications, a technology that increases the number of channels in the local loop by converting analog signals to digital and multiplexing them back to the end office. , TR303 is playing an important role. Release 14.E provides for a unique virtual Integrated Digital Terminal concept that allows for a graceful and economic expansion of TR303 applications.

New ISDN Provisioning and Maintenance Capabilities to Accelerate ISDN Deployment

To meet the explosive demand for ISDN service, Siemens Stromberg-Carlson has added enhanced ISDN provisioning and maintenance capabilities to Release 14.E. These new capabilities improve reliability and provide local service providers with a more efficient and less costly ISDN implementation. In addition, Release 14.E introduces an ISDN Basic Rate Digital Line Testing feature which significantly decreases the time and cost associated with ISDN line maintenance and trouble isolation by enabling the technician to isolate a problem on an ISDN line without ever leaving the test center. Enhanced Remote Protocol Monitoring capability provides for additional ISDN trouble isolation and testing from a centralized location.
