Siemens Demonstrates Total Network Solutions At Supercomm '98.
"Deregulation has opened the market to competition, and that has changed the industry dramatically," said Fred Fromm, president and CEO of Siemens Telecom Networks. "There is added pressure on vendors to supply and support turnkey solutions. At Siemens, our overriding mission is to provide those solutions and help our customers add value to their networks."
Siemens Telecom Networks is a total solutions provider, offering products and services ranging from voice over the Internet to broadband networks, automated service provisioning to ADSL (Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line) high-speed data access, ISDN (Integrated Services Digital Network) to AIN (Advanced Intelligent Network).
Highlights of the Siemens Telecom Networks exhibit include:
-- Internet Telephony The InterXpress(TM) family of Voice over Internet Protocol (VOIP) solutions links the PSTN (Public Switched Telephone Network) with the Internet, enabling voice calls to be completed over IP-based networks. Carriers can expand their market reach by offering subscribers integrated solutions for voice, fax and other value-added services, anywhere in the world.
--High-Speed Data Access Solutions An interactive end-user application features ATM-based ADSL technology to demonstrate the high-speed data access capabilities of Siemens' XpressLink(R) products. Visitors can see the exceptional speed and quality of video images transferred at speeds up to 8 Mb/s for applications featuring work-at-home, electronic commerce, video conference and real-time delivery of MPEG-encoded video clips. In addition, Siemens' FastLink(R) fiber-to-the-curb access system will demonstrate high-speed data access via Ethernet to a personal computer.
Siemens, as a member of the Universal ADSL Working Group, also will support Universal ADSL access through a software upgrade to its XpressLink product and as a "plug and play" line card solution in its EWSD(R) switching system, the world's leading digital central office switch.
-- Broadband Networks A live demonstration of the Siemens/Newbridge MainStreetXpress(TM) 36170 Multiservices Switch features Carrier-Scale Internetworking(TM) (CSI) architecture. CSI is a standards-based, end-to-end network solution that enables managed Internet protocol (IP) virtual private network services with multiple classes of service. Also on display will be the award-winning Siemens/Newbridge MainStreetXpress 36190 Core Services Switch and MainStreetXpress 46020 Network Management System.
-- AIN Service Creation and Deployment A live Fast Feature Platform(TM) (FFP) system shows how premium services such as prepaid debit card can be rapidly customized and brought to market using AIN technology. With the use of the INventor(R) Service Creation Environment, users can create and simulate new services and transfer them to the FFP. A WebTV demonstration will illustrate how subscribers can personally control telephone services using the Internet.
-- Transport Solutions Siemens enters the transport market in the United States by introducing TransXpress(TM) ALine, a multi-service fiber optic transport system that combines synchronous optical network (SONET) and asynchronous transfer mode (ATM) technology. ALine has the ability to transmit narrowband and data signals, including broadband ATM. It also features multi-service access for private networks and connections for individual subscribers at bit rates from 64 Kb/s to 150 Mb/s.
-- Switching Solutions From the world-leading EWSD switch to the DCO(R)-CS switch for long distance, Siemens is a leader in switching technology.
Siemens is unveiling the Smart Network strategy for EWSD networks, a five -step process for evolving EWSD narrowband switching into fully converged voice and data networks. eatured at the booth will be the Smart Commander platform, the management system used to operate the new network. The demonstration will show the graphic user interface that simplifies operations, administration and maintenance procedures.
Also featured will be a remote control unit (RCU), which can be used for central office replacements where switching or trunking is not required.
-- Automated Flow-Through Provisioning of Any Service Whether carriers are offering telephony, wireless, cable or Internet service, the ServiceCoordinator(TM) system automatically provisions the service from end-to-end. This customized business tool provides automated support of all service management function areas with the touch of a button. Demonstrations will illustrate service provisioning, fault and performance, billing, customer care and carrier access billing system (CABS) services.
-- GSM Wireless Solutions The wireless D1900 BS-11 Base Transceiver Station, the smallest on the market, will be on display to demonstrate mobile solutions for the rapidly growing PCS (Personal Communication Service) industry. The D1900 product line, based on GSM (Global System for Mobile Communications) technology, offers a complete wireless network solution.
