Siemens Announces Controller Area Network Version of its C515 8-BIT Microcontroller.


CUPERTINO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 16, 1996--Siemens Components, Inc. today announced availability of the new member of Siemens 80C32 compatible C500 range microcontrollers, the SAB-C515C.

The C515C provides Full CAN version 2.0B interface integrated on the chip with 15 message memories including one with Basic CAN functionality. The chip features optimized EMC (1) (EMC Corporation, Hopkinton, MA, www.emc.com) The leading supplier of storage products for midrange computers and mainframes. Founded in 1979 by Richard J. Egan and Roger Marino, EMC has developed advanced storage and retrieval technologies for the world's largest companies.  behavior and new current saving modes.

The C515C with CAN meets the current requirements for increasingly small controller devices, optimized EMC behavior and fast communications between decentralized sensors, actuators and the host. The device provides 64 Kbytes of ROM, 2 Kbytes XRAM XRAM Extended Ram

A 600ns instruction execution time at 10MHz (MegaHertZ) One million cycles per second. It is used to measure the transmission speed of electronic devices, including channels, buses and the computer's internal clock. A one-megahertz clock (1 MHz) means some number of bits (16, 32, 64, etc.  together with eight 16-bit data pointers ensures maximum performance even during frequent external data fetches. An interrupt unit with 15 possible sources on four priority levels allows an improved system real-time response.

Typical applications for the C515C are networked industrial control, climate controls, and car entertainment such as radios.

The SABC SABC South African Broadcasting Corporation 515CLM CLM - Career Limiting Move  will be available in sample quantities Q4 1996. Volume production will begin early 1997. In quantities of 1,000 the product will list at $10.80.
