Sick of being held hostage.


An 84-year-old Sandlick, Virginia, man and his wife were held hostage hostage, person held by another as a guarantee that certain actions or promises will or will not be carried out. During periods of internal turmoil, insurgents often seize hostages; recent examples include seizures of Americans and other foreigners by militants in  for over two hours by gun-wielding thieves before the husband was able to get his gun and end the ordeal, stated the December 24 Richmond Times-Dispatch The Richmond Times-Dispatch (RTD or TD for short) is the primary daily newspaper in Richmond, Virginia the capital of Virginia, and is commonly considered the "newspaper of record" for events occurring in much of the state. .

 came to the Colleys' door, showed Mrs. Colley a gun, and pushed his way inside the house. As he entered, he pulled a ski mask over his head and then used a walkie-talkie to call his cohort, Hubert Howard, Jr.

When Howard entered the house, the thieves made the Colleys lie on the floor, and as one of the thieves held the Colleys at gunpoint, the other ransacked ran·sack

Sometime during the encounter, Sexton shot Clyde Colley in the calf with a .25 caliber pistol. Feigning illness, Mr. Colley asked to be able to sit down. When the robbers acquiesced to his request, Colley moved to a seat near where he kept his pistol, got hold of his gun, and fired twice at Howard, hitting him in the head once, killing him. Sexton then fled from the house.

Because the intruders had destroyed the Colleys' phones, Mrs. Colley got help by flagging down a passing motorist. After the incident, Mr. Colley was hospitalized to recover from his leg wound. No charges were filed against him.
