Sicel Technologies Announces Founder Elected Fellow of the American Society for Therapeutic Radiology and Placement of $7MM Convertible Bonds.

MORRISVILLE N.C. -- Sicel Technologies, Inc., a leading developer and manufacturer of implantable sensors and surface dosimeters, announced that Dr. Charles Scarantino, its founder, chairman and medical director, has been elected a Fellow of the American Society for Therapeutic Radiology and Oncology (ASTRO). Dr. Scarantino received his FASTRO designation on November 5 at a special ceremony during ASTRO's 48th Annual Meeting in Philadelphia. The Company also announced that it had closed on an offering of convertible bonds. Burton Advisers Ltd. acted as advisor to the Company in this placement.

Dr. Scarantino has been a member of ASTRO since 1978. He is a member of the Executive Council of the Radiation Therapy Oncology Group (RTOG) and is currently Chair of the Cancer Survivorship Program. Members of ASTRO are eligible to become a Fellow after 20 years of membership, serving in a leadership role for the organization and having made significant contributions to the field of radiation oncology. The primary pathways to becoming a Fellow are research, patient care, education and leadership/service. The Society values contributions to all four areas, however, each nominee needs to have a "truly outstanding" contribution to at least one of the pathways to be named a Fellow. Dr. Scarantino is in private practice at the Rex Cancer Center, Raleigh NC.

In commenting on the sale of the bonds, Dr. Jonathan Gelles of Burton Advisers, a Board member of the Company, said "The attraction of investors towards the prospects for the Company's miniature DVS[R] sensor and their belief in the future of Sicel's technology was boosted by the favorable domestic and overseas financing climate. As such, the convertible bonds were oversubscribed by $1MM and closed more rapidly than initially projected. This cash infusion will further strengthen the Company's balance sheet and allow it to focus on product commercialization."
