The editors of Electronic Products -- a leading trade publication for electronic design engineers -- evaluated thousands of products launched in 2006 on the basis of innovative design, significant advancement in technology or application and substantial achievement in price and performance. The SiT8002 demonstrated success as selections were based on a significant advance in technology or its application, innovation in design, or a substantial gain in price/performance: "Quartz devices have retained their position, remaining the undisputed time reference for electronic circuits. That is, they did until last year, when the SiRes SiT8002 programmable oscillator family was introduced," said Richard Comerford editor of Electronic Products. "The single-chip MEMS (MicroElectroMechanical Systems) Tiny mechanical devices that are built onto semiconductor chips and are measured in micrometers. In the research labs since the 1980s, MEMS devices began to materialize as commercial products in the mid-1990s.  devices exhibit better aging and thermal hysteresis hysteresis (hĭs'tərē`sĭs), phenomenon in which the response of a physical system to an external influence depends not only on the present magnitude of that influence but also on the previous history of the system.  characteristics than quartz-based parts at comparable prices. Further, the technology scales with process geometry and promises to allow integration of timing references with any chip."

The 2006 Product of the Year Awards were announced in the January 2007 issue of Electronic Products (http://electronicproducts.com) with a cover feature and a brief description of each product. 2006 marks the 31st anniversary of Electronic Products' "Product of the Year" Awards, which began recognizing the best products in the industry in 1977.

"This recognition as one of Electronic Products' Products of the Year is both an honor and a validation of SiTime's commitment to deliver products to the system timing marketplace," said Kurt Petersen, CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. Typically the president of the company, the CEO reports to the Chairman of the Board.  and Chairman at SiTime. "We respect Electronic Products and its editorial focus to provide design engineers with real solutions to electronic system design and especially for its excellent and informed coverage of system timing products. The editor/judges have realized and acknowledged the importance and the uniqueness of our SiT8002 product from both a technology and application perspective as a viable alternative to traditional quartz-based timing solutions. Providing engineers with the ability to choose the timing solution that best fits their application is the cornerstone of our product strategy. The SiRes[TM] SiT1x and SiT8002 families offer the ultimate in flexibility with features that deliver the optimal balance between performance and cost."

SiTime oscillators sampling today address more than 80% of the market served today with quartz-based oscillators. Key target applications are digital still cameras, portable media players, notebook computers, and high reliability applications. However, SiTime MEMS oscillators will benefit any quartz application where small size and reliability are valued.

About SiTime

SiTime Corporation develops, markets, and manufacturers MEMS-based silicon resonators, oscillators, and timing products. The MEMS First(TM) and EpiSeal(TM) process licensed from Robert Bosch GmbH Robert Bosch GmbH [1] is a German corporation which was started in 1886 by Robert Bosch in Stuttgart, Germany. [2]

Bosch businesses include:
  • automotive parts and systems supplier;[2]
has removed the technical barriers preventing wide acceptance of this quartz replacement technology. Key benefits are the small size, high reliability, and low cost. However, many benefits of the technology are still to be fully realized in future value-added components. These future benefits include MEMS+CMOS (Complementary Metal Oxide Semiconductor) Pronounced "c-moss." The most widely used integrated circuit design. It is found in almost every electronic product from handheld devices to mainframes.  integration, multiple resonators per die, and system benefits for customers derived from a small, local, stable frequency source.
