Business/Technology Editors

SAN JOSE San Jose, city, United States

, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 5, 2002

Silicon Genesis Corporation (SiGen) is moving its company headquarters and Research & Development (R&D) from Campbell, CA to a site adjacent to its existing Silicon on Insulator See SOI.  (SOI (Silicon On Insulator) A chip architecture that increases transistor switching speed by reducing capacitance (build-up of electrical charges in the transistor's elements), and thus reducing the discharge time. The power requirement is also reduced in some designs. ) production facility in San Jose, CA. This consolidation of all operations in a single location will increase SiGen's business efficiency and add approximately 50% more clean room area to the San Jose site for combined SOI production and R&D activities.

Francois Henley, founder and CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. Typically the president of the company, the CEO reports to the Chairman of the Board.  of SiGen, stated, "We are looking forward to this opportunity to bring our R&D and production groups together at a single location. The increasing pace of development of our capabilities and expansion of the applications for SiGen's layer transfer technology demand a closer link between our development group and our production engineers. The new San Jose clean room for R&D activities is a significant upgrade from the Campbell facility".

SiGen's new technology capabilities include ultra-thin SOI, multi-layer laminates for photonic media and high-mobility device layers using strained Silicon A technique that deposits silicon (Si) on top of silicon germanium (SiGe) for making transistors on a chip. In so doing, the silicon atoms are stretched ("strained") to line up with the silicon germanium atoms, which are wider apart.  and SiGe alloy layers. Ultra-thin SOI wafers are being shipped to customers for development of fully-depleted CMOS (Complementary Metal Oxide Semiconductor) Pronounced "c-moss." It is found in almost every electronic product from handheld devices to mainframes.  circuits with device layers of 200 Angstroms and less with a total thickness non-uniformity range of 15 to 20 Angstroms. SiGen's 200 mm process for ultra-thin SOI has been extended to 300 mm wafers in sample quantities. SiGen is also developing layer transfer technologies for fabrication fabrication (fab´rikā´shn),

Effective August 5, 2002 SiGen corporate headquarters address will be 61 Daggett Drive, San Jose, CA 95134. The new corporate phone number will be 408-228-5858. The SiGen Campbell site, which has been in use since the founding of SiGen in 1997, will close when the transfer of the R&D equipment to the new San Jose clean room is completed in early fall.
