Desperate to reset their lives, Jade and Mercedes work together to make sense of what's happening, find their way out of the game, and return to their "normal" lives. Showalter weaves a scary story about the effects of stereotypes and conformity on teens' lives. She includes struggles with parents, friends, and teachers and dips into the emotions of characters on both the giving and receiving end of typecasts and labels.
