Showa Denko to Increase Production Capacity of Acetic Acid and Vinyl Acetate.


Tokyo, Japan, Nov 21, 2005 - (JCNN JCNN Japan Corporate News Network ) - Showa Denko Showa Denko K. K. (昭和電工株式会社   has decided to expand the production capacity of acetic acid acetic acid (əsē`tĭk), CH3CO2H, colorless liquid that has a characteristic pungent odor, boils at 118°C;, and is miscible with water in all proportions; it is a weak organic carboxylic acid (see carboxyl group).  and vinyl acetate it produces. In line with an upcoming regular maintenance of its Oita Petrochemical Complex in next year, the company will beef up the production facilities there.

Accordingly, Showa Denko will increase the annual production capacity from the current 100,000 tons for acetic acid and 120,000 tons for vinyl acetate to 130,000 tons and 175,000 tons, respectively. Acetic acid and vinyl acetate are used to manufacture synthetic fibers.

With this move, the company aims to meet stable demands for acetic acid and vinyl acetate, and ensure its competitiveness in the ASEAN ASEAN: see Association of Southeast Asian Nations.
