Shomiti Systems Offers Trade-In On Competitor's Analyzers; Aggressive Deal Supplies $2,000 Incentive To Switch To Shomiti's Products.

SAN JOSE San Jose, city, United States
San Jose (sănəzā`, săn hōzā`), city (1990 pop. 782,248), seat of Santa Clara co., W central Calif.; founded 1777, inc. 1850.
, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 28, 1998--Shomiti Systems today announced an aggressive trade-in program giving corporate end-users and resellers a $2,000 incentive to trade in Network Associates' Distributed Sniffer Systems for Shomiti's network analyzers.

The promotion, which runs through December 31, 1998, rewards customers who trade in Network Associates' analyzers with a $2,000 credit toward the purchase of Shomiti's CMM (Capability Maturity Model) A process developed by SEI in 1986 to help improve, over time, the application of an organization's supporting software technologies. 2 or Explorer products. The Explorer is a self-contained solution that incorporates CMM2 boards in a lightweight chassis, enabling it to be deployed either as a portable system for field service personnel or as a rack-mountable system for in-house use.

"Our Distributed Sniffer trade-in promotion capitalizes on the high marks Shomiti's products have received from both customers and reviewers," said Bill Shaw Bill Shaw, former high-paid Time Warner executive. Shaw was at one time the President of TBS Sports.

Bill Shaw, Dr. Professor of Physical Oceanography at Moss Landing Marine Laboratories. Known for his tough yet tactical approach towards teaching, Dr.
, Shomiti's president. "Our analyzers cost significantly less than competitive solutions, yet they repeatedly come out on top in head-to-head comparisons, and this trade-in offer gives end-users the opportunity to see why without completely losing their investment in other equipment."

The CMM2 and Explorer utilize an innovative silicon-accelerated hardware engine that captures every packet on any 10/100 Ethernet network using any user-defined filter, even at 100 percent utilization. This minimizes the risk of dropping a packet, making it possible to accurately and effectively troubleshoot a network problem.

with Shomiti's award-winning integrated monitoring and analysis Surveyor software, the CMM2s can effectively monitor traffic on any 10/100 Ethernet network to help diagnose and troubleshoot problems. The analyzer features real-time packet decode and Expert analysis for immediate troubleshooting assistance, the ability to save packets to a disk in real time for long-term problem-solving, and a filtering mechanism that enables up to 64 filters to be applied across any part of a packet. One CMM2 analyzes a half-duplex Ethernet network; two CMM2s can provide a seamless view of a full-duplex network.

The Explorer delivers the same functionality as the CMM2 in a chassis equipped with a high-performance MIPS (Million Instructions Per Second) The execution speed of a computer. For example, .5 MIPS is 500,000 instructions per second; 100 MIPS is a hundred million instructions per second.  R4000 processor, and it can be used to track any full or half-duplex 10/100 Ethernet network. Field service engineers can connect it directly to the network segment to be viewed or even deploy it remotely at locations not frequented by technicians or field support personnel.
