Shirley A. Jackson and J. Michael Cook Elected to AT&T Board of Directors.

NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--JUNE 20, 2001

AT&T today announced the election of Shirley A. Jackson and J. Michael Cook to its Board of Directors.

Jackson is currently president of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, at Troy, N.Y.; coeducational; founded and opened 1824 as Rensselaer School; chartered 1826. It was called Rensselaer Institute from 1837 to 1861. , a leading private co-education institution in Troy, New York Troy is a city in New York, U.S., and the county seat of Rensselaer County. As of the 2000 census, the population was 49,170; in 1910, the population was 76,813. The city's motto is Ilium fuit, Troja est, which means "Troy was, Troy is.  that emphasizes science and engineering technology and was founded in 1824.

Cook is the retired chairman and chief executive officer of Deloitte & Touche LLP, one of the nation's leading professional services firms.

Cook, 58, joined Deloitte, Haskins & Sells in 1964 after graduating with a B.S. degree from the University of Florida University of Florida is the third-largest university in the United States, with 50,912 students (as of Fall 2006) and has the eighth-largest budget (nearly $1.9 billion per year). UF is home to 16 colleges and more than 150 research centers and institutes. . In 1986, Cook became chairman of the company and in 1989 he directed the global merger of Deloitte, Haskins & Sells and Touche Ross. As CEO he built Deloitte and Touche into a firm with more than 30,000 employees and $6 billion in U.S. revenue.

Cook served as chairman of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants With over 330,525 CPA members (in August 2006), the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) is the largest professional organization of Certified Public Accountants (CPAs) in the United States of America. , was a member of its Auditing Standards Board and in 1999 was inducted into the Accounting Hall of Fame. Cook also received numerous awards for his commitment to the advancement and retention of women in business, including the CEO Recognition Award from Women in Technology International. Cook is a director of Rockwell International Corporation and Dow Chemical Company and serves on the advisory board of the Fidelity Group of Mutual Funds.

The election of Jackson and Cook temporarily increases AT&T's Board to 17 members. However, on July 9 when five of its Board members leave to join the AT&T Wireless Board at the time of the split off, the AT&T Board will have 12 members.
