Shipping activity at Port Qasim.

KARACHI, 21 March , 2009 (Balochistan Times) -- Shipping activity remained brisk at the Port where five ships carrying containers, palm oil, furnace oil and chemicals were accommodated berths at Qasim International Container Terminal, Multi Purpose Terminal, FOTCO Oil Terminal and Engro Vopak Terminal respectively on Friday. Meanwhile two more ships with Containers and Furnace oil also arrived at outer anchorage of Port Qasim during last 24 hours. Berth occupancy was recorded at the Port at eighty percent on Friday as against seventy percent on previous day where a total of eight ships namely C.V Maersk Novazzano, C.V CSAV Lauca, M.V Alexi-III, M.T Alaska-II, M.V Beluga Constitution, M.T Sahmo Emerald, M.T Genie and M.T Indradi are currently occupying at PQA Terminals to load/offload containers, cement, project cargo, palm oil, furnace oil and chemicals respectively during the report period. Cargo handling operation were carried out smoothly at the Port where a cargo volume of 70,357 tonnes, comprising 52,432 tonnes imports and 17,925 tonnes exports inclusive of containerized cargo carried in 2,962 containers (TEUs) was handled at the Port during last 24 hours. Four ships M.T Stolt Endurance, M.T Sc Dalian, C.V CSAV Lauca and M.V Beluga Constitution sailed out to sea during last 24 hours while another ship C.V Maersk Novazzano is expected to sail on Saturday. Three ships M.V Ansan, C.V MSC Liana and C.V Eddy Stone scheduled to load/offload cement and containers are expected to take berths at Container Terminal and Multi Purpose Terminal respectively on Saturday. M.T Hartati carrying palm oil is due to arrive at Port Qasim on Saturday while another ship M.T Angelia is due to arrive on Sunday.
