Shipley benches world record.

Cottage Grove's Steve Shipley set a world record of 568 pounds in the bench press in the 40-46 age group at the Regional Powerlifting pow·er·lift·ing

A weightlifting competition in which participants compete in the squat, dead lift, and bench press.
 Championships in Boise on May 17.

Shipley, who competes in the 275-pound weight class for the Ironworks Powerlifting team in Creswell, had to wait for the results of drug tests before the record could be verified by the World Association of Bench and Dead Lift.

Shipley plans to participate in the National Powerlifting Championships to be held in Portland on Aug. 2-3.

Sheldon assistants land head coaching jobs

Two of Sheldon's boys soccer assistant coaches have been hired as head coaches in the Midwestern League.

Phil Larsen, who served as Sheldon's assistant coach for three years, is the new girls soccer coach for the Irish. He replaces Cheryl Brost, who resigned after two seasons as coach.

Larsen graduated from North Eugene in 1993 and played soccer for two years at Concordia University in Portland. He was an assistant coach for three years at North Eugene before joining the Irish staff.

Luke Roberts Luke Roberts (born 25 January, 1977) is an Australian cyclist specialising in both track cycling and road bicycle racing. Born in Adelaide, South Australia, he resides both in Adelaide and in Cologne, Germany.  is the new boys soccer coach at Churchill, replacing co-coaches Micah Olson and Ivan McMillan, who resigned. Laura McCarthy hit a two-run double in the eighth inning as the Reign beat Aphis of Vancouver, Wash., 5-4 in the third-place game.

The Reign U16 A team took second in their portion of the tournament, losing 3-0 to Vancouver Ford in the championship game.

Portland golfers win berths to Senior Open

PORTLAND - David Jacobsen and Bob Harrington, both of Portland, qualified for the U.S. Senior Open on Monday at Waverly Country Club.

Jacobsen shot a 1-under-par 70, and Harrington shot a 71.

CORVALLIS - Oregon State senior heavyweight Andy Bowlby was named the school's outstanding wrestler at the year-end wrestling banquet Sunday.
