Shiner Bock sales soaring this spring.

Spoetzl Brewery reported that sales of its Shiner Bock grew almost 35 percent in the first quarter compared with first quarter 1991's figures, and far-exceeded the brewery's expectations.

"Two years ago, Shiner was known mostly to a small group of loyal supporters," explained John Hybner, Spoetzl brewmaster. "Today, Shiner is one of the most popular Texas beers in the state."

Despite the brand's popularity, Shiner's consumer's don't fit one specific profile, Hybner continued. "You can't really pigeonhole a typical Shiner Bock customer," he said. "All kinds of people like it. Because we're making it available to more people, more are trying it. Once they try Shiner, they recognize the quality and the unique taste, and they keep asking for it. That's why we're selling more."
