), a drug-metabolizing enzyme, through collaboration with Hokkaido University.

Specifically, the two partners have discovered CYP2C76, a molecular species of CYP specifically found in monkeys that have a metabolic pattern similar to human.

Further, they have confirmed that CYP2C76 metabolizes drugs and is frequently expressed in the liver. SNBL has already filed application for a patent on these findings.

Details of the findings are presented in Molecular Pharmacology, a scientific magazine published by the American Society for Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics, under the title "CYP2C76, a novel CYP in cynomolgus monkey, is a major CYP2C in liver, metabolizing tolbutamide tolbutamide /tol·bu·ta·mide/ (tol-bu´tah-mid) a sulfonylurea used as a hypoglycemic in the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus; the monosodium salt is used to test for insulinoma and diabetes mellitus.  and testosterone".
