By adopting a new primary filter and improved counting system, the new spectrometer can identify elements in samples with higher detection sensitivity while reducing time required for inspection.

Specifically, the EDX-720 can detect toxic heavy metals heavy metals,

higher sensitivity than the conventional spectrometers.

In addition, the spectrometer reduces time to measure lead to about 30 seconds, 1/10 to 1/2 the time the conventional model takes.

Shimadzu envisages a wide range of applications for the new product, from electrical and electronics materials, chemicals, pharmaceuticals, agriculture, foods, steel, and machineries. The product sells for 9 million yen ($75,500) for the standard configuration system. The company aims to sell 500 units annually.
