) - Shikibo Ltd. and the National Institute of Animal Health have jointly developed a fabric called 'Flutect' that has been proven to block the spread of bird influenza influenza or flu, acute, highly contagious disease caused by a virus; formerly known as the grippe. There are three types of the virus, designated A, B, and C, but only types A and B cause more serious contagious infections.  by 99.9%, even after 50 washings, stopping the spread of the virus within 10 minutes of exposure.

Flutect will be available in 2007 in the form of uniforms for poultry poultry, domesticated fowl kept primarily for meat and eggs; including birds of the order Galliformes, e.g., the chicken, turkey, guinea fowl, pheasant, quail, and peacock; and natatorial (swimming) birds, e.g., the duck and goose.  house workers, masks, filters, down jackets, lab-coats and so forth.
