Shenhua coal-based olefin project passes final evaluation.


Shenhua Baotou coal-based olefin project, a super large coal chemical project in China, has recently passed the final evaluation before the approval by the state.

It is reported that the project has already got the reply to the project site selection from the Government of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, the reply to the project land pre-evaluation from the Ministry of Territorial Resources and the reply to the project environmental impact evaluation from the State Environmental Protection Bureau.

The project is jointly funded by Shenhua Group Co., Ltd., Hong Kong Kerry Chemical Co., Ltd. and Baotou Tomorrow Science & Technology Co., Ltd. The total investment is RMB11.56 billion (including US$430 million foreign capital). Of the total, the investment in construction is RMB10.82 billion. The project is located in Halinger Town, Jiuyuan District of Baotou, west of the Kundulun River and south of the Baotou-Lanzhou Railway. The capacity of the project is 310 000 t/a PP, 300 000 t/a PE, 1.8 million t/a intermediate product methanol, 94 000 t/a butene, 37 000 t/a alkanes above C5, 14 000 t/a ethane/propane and 19 000 t/a sulfur. A 100MW cogeneration plant will also be constructed. Clean coal gasification technology and new coal chemical technology will be used to develop coal-based olefin production. It can therefore play an important demonstrative role in the sustainable development of the coal industry in China.
