Byline: The Register-Guard

SHELDON HIGH School has 335 graduates in the class of 2002.

Commencement exercises will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Hult Center, Seventh and Willamette streets. Baccalaureate services were held June 2 in the school auditorium.

Students maintaining a 4.00 grade-point average throughout high school were Jacob Alderson, Paul Bodily, Jon Cagle II, Shelby Crabtree, Sheena Ditgen, Leah Fischer, Zachary Hocking, Kelly Hopping, Emily Mosqueda and Tessa Roehl.

Jacob Alderson, son of Rick and Gayle Alderson, plans to attend the University of Oregon and major in biology. He was a member of National Honor Society and participated in the band program, including marching band, wind ensemble and pep band. He volunteered with the Red Cross First Aid Service Team and was president of that group his senior year.

Paul Bodily, son of Mark and Holly Bodily, plans to attend Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah. He was a partipant in the Mr. Irish Pageant and serves as the publicity coordinator and historian for his National Honor Society chapter. He participated in music - playing trumpet, saxophone and piano - and has completed the French, Japanese and math academic programs. He was an International Baccaluareate Diploma candidate.

Jon Cagle II, son of Jon and Cheryl Cagle, plans to attend the University of Oregon and work toward a master's degree in business administration. He was a member of the National Honor Society and the History Club, was active in the community and volunteered at FOOD for Lane County.

Shelby Crabtree, the daughter of Jack and Jody Crabtree, has received an athletic scholarship to play women's soccer at Oregon State University. She was a member of the National Honor Society, and she completed the Spanish Immersion Program and International High School. She volunteered in third- and fifth-grade classrooms, was the league's most valuable player in girls soccer and was named first team all-state. Her teams won five state soccer championships, and she represented Oregon in regional tournaments with her club team.

Sheena Ditgen, daughter of Mark and Linda Ditgen, plans to study forensic science at the University of Oregon. She was enrolled in the International High School program, was a member of the National Honor Society, played volleyball and was a four-year varsity competitor in track and field.

Leah Fischer, daughter of John and Laurie Fischer, plans to return to Alaska this summer to vacuum-pack fish and earn money. In the fall, she will travel and discover what she wants to do with her life. She was on ski team for three years and participated in cross country and soccer.

Zachary Hocking, son of Bruce and Coleen Hocking, plans to study computer engineering at Gonzaga University in Spokane. He was a member of National Honor Society and the French and history clubs, was a varsity athlete in football and was enrolled in the Honors Program. He volunteered at the former Willamette Science and Technology Center, at Sheldon's Career Center, and he coaches a YMCA high school basketball team.

Kelly Hopping, daughter of Mitch and Megan Hopping, plans to attend the University of Montana in Missoula, Mont. She is a National Merit Scholar finalist, was enrolled in the International High School program and was vice president of National Honor Society. She played on the tennis team and volunteered at the Eugene Public Library.

Emily Mosqueda, daughter of Rafael and Cathy Mosqueda, plans to spend a year abroad to study Spanish in Argentina before attending the Honors College at Oregon State University. She served as president of the National Honor Society, on the Youth Cabinet and on the board of directors of Wilani Council Camp Fire. She was a Young Life volunteer, a lay reader and communion server at First United Methodist Church, a peer mentor and a tutor. She will receive an Honors Diploma, is an International Baccalaureate Certificate candidate and recently was recognized as Rotary International student of the month and the International High School student of the month.

Tessa Roehl, daughter of Linda and Tom Roehl, plans to attend New York University and to study journalism and film production. She was a performance dancer for nine years, a peer mentor, a National Merit Commended Student and a member of the National Honor Society. She attended the International High School and completed the Spanish Immersion Program.
