) - Sharp recently announced that it will build an LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) A display technology that uses rod-shaped molecules (liquid crystals) that flow like liquid and bend light. Unenergized, the crystals direct light through two polarizing filters, allowing a natural background color to show.  screen manufacturing facility in Torun, in the north-central part of Poland, at a projected cost of 44 million euros.

Production at the new facility, which will initially employ 800 people, is scheduled to begin in January 2007.

The facility will be built on a 500,00m2 site and have 41,000m2 of floor space. Screens produced there will be exported to Spain and Germany, where Sharp manufactures LCD TVs A flat panel TV that uses LCD technology or a rear-projection TV that is based on LCD microdisplay panels.
