) today announced the availability of two new LED product lines that incorporate advancements in package sizes, luminosity luminosity, in astronomy, the rate at which energy of all types is radiated by an object in all directions. A star's luminosity depends on its size and its temperature, varying as the square of the radius and the fourth power of the absolute surface temperature. , and color reproducibility reproducibility Lab medicine  The degree of agreement among repeated measurements of a particular parameter, presented in terms of a standard deviation or coefficient of variation of the results in a set of measurements .

These Sharp LEDs are being manufactured specifically for design engineers working on consumer electronics that feature the innovative use of light sources. These components expand Sharp's LED offering in North America North America, third largest continent (1990 est. pop. 365,000,000), c.9,400,000 sq mi (24,346,000 sq km), the northern of the two continents of the Western Hemisphere. , and allow design engineers to utilize smaller, thinner, and higher luminosity LEDs.

"An increasing number of applications, from new cell phones with built-in camera functionality to white goods to LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) A display technology that uses rod-shaped molecules (liquid crystals) that flow like liquid and bend light. Unenergized, the crystals direct light through two polarizing filters, allowing a natural background color to show.  backlights, are now being designed using LEDs," said Herb Moeller, senior product marketing manager at Sharp. "Sharp's extensive line of LED components offer design engineers the broadest package designs and features on the market today, and will help them meet the market demand for innovative applications."

The new LED products lines were developed using Sharp Corporation's proven compound semiconductor technology, assuring design engineers the highest quality and performance. The LED lines are represented in the Americas by SMA, and globally by other Sharp Corporation subsidiaries and distributors.

Sharp's first line of LEDs is an RGB Super-luminosity TAF (Tough and Flush To empty the contents of a memory buffer. See buffer.

The chip's TAF 6-pin package has a thickness of 2.4mm and features the ability to use a larger drive current without an increased degradation DEGRADATION, punishment, ecclesiastical law. The 6-pin configuration allows series connection of LEDs as a backlight to drive colors independently with the same current, thus reducing power consumption, offering better control of both heat output and color (e.g. red, green and blue can be concentrated to get truer colors).

Sharp has also expanded its lines of Surface Mount Chip LEDs, with the following new components:
-- 1) High Brightness Ultra Thin .35mmt AlGaInP LEDs, which are ideal for applications that require thinner packages, such as cell phones and PDAs. Additionally, when used in membrane switches for white goods, these chips eliminate the need for one or more spacers in the membrane switch. These LEDs provide a bright backlight without high energy requirements. Also available in .55mm and .8mm thin 1608 chip sizes with same footprint as .35mm. Colors available: Yellow-green, Blue, Green, Amber, Sunset orange, Orange, and Red.

-- 2) 1616 Dichromatic and Full-Color Chip LEDs -- Sharp's dichromatic high luminosity chip LEDs have two different colors in the same package, and are used in cell phones, backlights or other applications that require multiple color options from one LED. This package design affords the option of having either die turned on or both simultaneously, producing a third color (e.g., red and green together to produce orange or yellow). Available colors: Yellow-green/Yellow, Green/Sunset orange, Yellow-green/Red.

Similarly, Sharp's 4-pin, full-color 1616 chip LED integrates three colors in one chip, is smaller than TAF LEDs, and uses less power.
