Sharp's powerful Actius MC24 notebook sells for under $1k.


After placing as a finalist in the CNET (body) CNET - Centre national d'Etudes des Telecommunications. The French national telecommunications research centre at Lannion.  "Next Best Thing" showdown at the Consumer Electronics Show in January, Sharp Systems of America has announced today the availability of the anticipated Actius MC24 notebook computer, the latest addition to Sharp's award-winning Actius notebook line. Geared toward the consumer and home/small office user, the new Actius MC24 is a fully equipped notebook computer, complete with 60GB of hard drive space, which retails for a budget conscious selling price of $999.00.

The Stylish Actius MC24 is a fully equipped notebook computer that provides comfortable computing and substantial performance. With its high-gloss, pearlesque finish, the Actius MC24 comes equipped with an AMD (Advanced Micro Devices, Inc., Sunnyvale, CA, www.amd.com) A major manufacturer of semiconductor devices including x86-compatible CPUs, embedded processors, flash memories, programmable logic devices and networking chips.  Athlon XP-M processor 2400+, which features AMD PowerNow! technology for extended battery life. Maximizing the benefits of AMD's PowerNow! Technology, the Actius MC24 has been designed for optimal battery life. Along with its processor muscle, the Actius MC24 comes standard with 512 MB DDRSDRAM DDRSDRAM Double Data Rate Synchronous Dynamic Random Access Memory  (upgradeable to 768 MB). Complete with Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition operating software, and a 60GB hard drive, the Actius MC24 provides substantial computing power for everyday needs.

The Actius MC24 also includes features with ergonomic comfort in mind. The 12.1-inch XGA (EXtended Graphics Array) A screen resolution of 1,024x768 pixels. The term stems from IBM's XGA display standard introduced in 1990, which extended VGA to 132-column text and interlaced 1,024x768x256 resolution. XGA-2 later added non-interlaced 1,024x768x64K.  (1024 x 768) LCD screen is easy on the eyes, providing bright, clear pictures in which even small letters are clearly legible. The notebook also features an ergonomic, "smile" keyboard, which is curved for comfortable typing.

Available immediately, the Sharp Actius MC24 sells for an estimated street price of $999.
