Shaping things to come. (Letters to the Editor).

Your August 12th issue does a great job bringing to light many subtle socialist doctrines being foisted upon the American people An American people may be:

through the incredibly popular Sci-Fi genre. One of the more obvious ties of Sci-Fi to globalism glob·al·ism

First of all I would like to congratulate William Norman Grigg William Norman Grigg is a writer of Mexican and Irish descent.[1] He was the senior editor and a prolific contributor to The New American, the official magazine of the John Birch Society.  for addressing a pivotal issue in our society in his article "Shaping Things to Come." I too have seen science fiction being used as a tool to promote globalism and am concerned about its effects on those I know. Thank you for addressing this topic so well.

Mr. Grigg brings up some interesting things about Star Wars that we should be wary of. However, I am inclined to defend George Lucas Noun 1. George Lucas - United States screenwriter and filmmaker (born in 1944)

because I believe Star Wars has embodied what we as patriots are trying hardest to defend--our freedom. Instead of the "United Federation of Planets" of Star Trek Editing of this page by unregistered or newly registered users is currently disabled due to vandalism.  that mirrors the United Nations, Star Wars has a "Galactic Republic The Galactic Republic is the name of the interplanetary government used in the fictional Star Wars universe prior to the establishment of the Galactic Empire. The form of this government created by the Senate, was introduced in the Prequel Trilogy. " similar to our Constitution. It is because of this system, based on just representation, that the galaxy has remained peaceful for 1,000 years.

In the recent films Phantom Menace and Attack of the Clones, Star Wars warns us of the dangers of a republic weakened by wicked men in power. Senator Palpatine appears to the people to be a lover of peace and democracy, but it is revealed that he is really an evil Sith Lord who uses bribery, deceit, and secrecy to promote a dictatorship with him in command.

Lucas also warns us of the dangers of giving emergency powers (such as many of our executive orders) to those who plead to be acting in our interests. Palpatine creates a horrible war to place him in a position of power. In A New Hope, The Empire Strikes Back, and The Return of the Jedi, Star Wars portrays the tyrannical "New Order" (clearly based on Nazism) of the Emperor (Senator Palpatine). Palpatine deceives many good politicians (such as Queen Amidala and Jar-Jar Binks) into supporting him, as many of our good politicians are being deceived.

These films also show us how even in the darkest hour of the galaxy, hope remains. Vastly outnumbered, rebel forces manage to destroy the empire. They are willing to sacrifice their lives and material possessions to defend what is most important--their freedom.

I enjoy your magazine every month. Thank you for telling the hard truth to those asleep to our prevalent danger, and for bringing hope to those who see none.
