Shanghai Praxair Yidian to Supply Gases to New Wafer Fab in Shanghai.


DANBURY, Conn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 21, 1997--Shanghai Praxair Yidian, Inc. has been selected by Shanghai Hua Hong Microelectronics Co., Ltd., to supply ultrahigh ul·tra·high

The joint venture will use Praxair's advanced electronics gas technology to supply ultrahigh purity gases -- nitrogen, oxygen, helium, hydrogen and argon argon (är`gŏn) [Gr.,=inert], gaseous chemical element; symbol Ar; at. no. 18; at. wt. 39.948; m.p. −189.2°C;; b.p. −185.7°C;; density 1.784 grams per liter at STP; valence 0.  -- to the Hua Hong facility. Hua Hong will produce 8-inch wafers with advanced 0.5 and 0.35 micron technologies Micron Technology ("Micron") NYSE: MU is a multinational company based in Boise, Idaho, USA, best known for producing many forms of semiconductor devices. This includes DRAM, SDRAM, flash memory, and CMOS image sensing chips.  that are new to China. These gases are used in the manufacturing process. The reliable supply of these gases with consistent ultra-high purity quality is critical to production.

Ultrahigh purity nitrogen and oxygen will be produced from an on-site generation plant patented by Praxair. It's advanced design produces 80% more product with no increase in energy requirements. Praxair recently was honored with one of Semiconductor International magazine's "Editor's Choice Award" for 1996 for its patented plant.
