Coville and the actors of Full Cast Audio perform the essence of four plays: A Midsummer Night's Dream A Midsummer Night's Dream is a romantic comedy by William Shakespeare written sometime in the 1590s. It portrays the adventures of four young Athenian lovers and a group of amateur actors, their interactions with the Duke and Duchess of Athens, Theseus and Hippolyta, and , Macbeth, Romeo and Juliet Romeo and Juliet

Obsolete.  summarizes the stories in prose passages, and actors in character speak small portions of the original dialogue as written by Shakespeare. Although the full scope of each play cannot be delivered in the half hour each is allotted, the spirit and essentials of the story and characters are well conveyed, and this production would be an excellent introduction to the plays for students or adults who are not familiar with them. Listening to these treatments would also make it easier for someone to approach either reading the texts or watching them on stage or on video.

Both narration and performances are spirited, and the actors convey their characters quite well given the limited amount of dialogue they have to work with. Highly recommended for school and public libraries. (Editors' note: see article by Bruce Coville in this issue.) Melody Moxley, Admin. Svcs. Mgr., Rowan P.L., Salisbury, NC
