Shaara, Jeff. Rise to rebellion.SHAARA, Jeff. Rise to rebellion. Random House, Ballantine. 492p. c2001. 0-345-42754-8. $7.95. SA* Volume one in a two-part story of the American Revolution American Revolution, 1775–83, struggle by which the Thirteen Colonies on the Atlantic seaboard of North America won independence from Great Britain and became the United States. It is also called the American War of Independence. , Rise to Rebellion gives readers the events leading up to the war from the perspectives of Ben Franklin, John Adams, George Washington, and Lieutenant General Thomas Gage Thomas Gage (1719 – April 2, 1787) was a British general and commander in chief of the North American forces from 1763 to 1775 during the early days of the American Revolution. . Others are heard from as well, such as Abigail Adams, Thomas Jefferson, John Dickinson John Dickinson or John Dickenson may refer to:
Pitt the Younger, Second Earl of Chatham, Pitt 2. William Pitt - English statesman who brought the Seven Years' War to an end (1708-1778) , and Thomas Paine. Shaara relies heavily on the participants' own words from letters, speeches, and documents. As a result, the novel feels more like a you-are-there history than like the fiction it is. All of the important events from 1770 to 1776, from the Boston Massacre to the signing of the Declaration of Independence are here. The story itself has drama and suspense, but Shaara is especially good at the battle scenes, which are splendidly detailed. The dialog also rings true. Highly recommended.
