The eForms Summit will focus on the primary products, technologies and business issues that are expected to drive the electronic forms (eForms) market in the coming years. The summit will focus on Adobe's recently announced Forms Designer product, which seeks to combine XML's interoperability with the presentation qualities of PDF (Portable Document Format) The de facto standard for document publishing from Adobe. On the Web, there are countless brochures, data sheets, white papers and technical manuals in the PDF format. ; Microsoft's recently introduced InfoPath product, part of the new XML-enabled Microsoft Office Microsoft's primary desktop applications for Windows and Mac. Depending on the package, it includes some combination of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access and Outlook along with various Internet and other utilities.  2003; and the World Wide Web Consortium's (W3C) XForms 1.0 standard, recently released by the interoperability forum as a recommendation.

"Traditional eForms are no longer sufficiently interoperable for today's businesses. People want choices as to how forms are designed and connected to products from various suppliers," said Hans Hartman, president of Suite 48 and chair of the summit. "Our eForms Summit provides a neutral platform to learn about the breaking eForms technologies that could generate tremendous cost savings over paper-based systems or less flexible existing eForms implementations."

Strong Industry Participation

"In order to affect true business success, eForms must become a part of the fabric of a company's business processes throughout the global enterprise. This demands broadly-deployable, interoperable methods of creating forms and connecting them to existing customer specific back-end systems, regardless of the data source or sender. The eForms Summit at Seybold Seminars(R) Amsterdam 2004 is the perfect opportunity to push the transformation from paper-based to e-forms to the next level." -- Rajesh Jha, InfoPath General Manager, Microsoft Corporation (company) Microsoft Corporation - The biggest supplier of operating systems and other software for IBM PC compatibles. , the portability of data is increasingly becoming a given; however, portability of business logic and user-interface behavior, which directly relate to the effectiveness of e-forms, is not. In order to drive industry adoption of standards such as XForms, which support this type of portability, we need to be able to meet at the same table. Seybold Seminars(R) Amsterdam 2004's eForms Summit is that forum." -- Steven Pemberton Steven Pemberton (born February 19, 1953) is one of the developers of the ABC programming language and of the Views system.
