Chief among the targets of right-wing opponents of school activities aimed at educating students about homosexuality or promoting acceptance of gay people are sex education programs which include homosexuality and student straight and gay alliance clubs. In many cases, the opponents are winning (The New York Times, June 9, 2005).

The Sexuality and Rights Institute holds its annual two weeklong residential course, "Exploring Theory and Practice" on January 9-21, 2006, in Pune, India. "From the Cradle to the Grave: Heteronormativity and the Life Course" is a conference scheduled in Norrkoping, Sweden, on June 13-15, 2006. The theme of this year's conference is ageing and the effects of lifelong heteronormativity. The deadline for abstracts is November 11, 2005. After making remarks that women may have less innate ability for math and science than men, Harvard President Larry Summers announced recently that the university is committing $50 million over the next decade to increase opportunities for women and minorities in Harvard's faculty and science programs (Ms. Magazine, May 2005).

Getting Bi: Voices of Bisexuals Around the World is a new international anthology of bisexuality including writings by people from 32 countries, ranging in age from 15 to 79, and encompassing a wide variety of gender, racial, ethnic, class, age, ability, relationship, political, and educational backgrounds.
