Sexist Honeymooners?

Regarding "This Sewer Sweeper Wore Blue'" (THE NEW AMERICAN, December 15), I believe that the honeymoon has clouded your recollection of the marriage. I agree that Mr. Art Carney was a uniquely talented actor. However, The Honeymooners was by no means a testament to good, clean entertainment. It was violent, evil and sexist sex·ism

.

The Honeymooners was a show that put women in their place, namely the kitchen. If a woman spoke out about the injustice of waiting on a man hand and foot, as Audrey Meadows Audrey Cotter Six, known professionally as Audrey Meadows (February 8 1922 – February 3 1996), born Audrey Cotter, was an Emmy Award-winning American actress best known for playing the deadpan housewife Alice Kramden  often did, Jackie Gleason's response was always the same. He would threaten her with his clenched clench

Each time she had a thought of her own, each time she expressed an opinion different from his, the result was always the same--"To the moon, Alice." In addition, his repeated threats validated the acts of violence in thousands of American homes For the American mortgage lender, see .

. Hey, it's okay because I saw it on TV, and it was funny. When I saw it on TV, it had a canned laugh track that made a joke of beating your wife.

In my opinion, not only do you owe the women of America an apology for calling The Honeymooners good, clean entertainment, but you also owe the Carney family an apology for pointing to one of the low points in his career and attempting to use it to eulogize eu·lo·gize
