Several races to be decided; Brookfield town election.

BROOKFIELD - Voters will decide contests for selectman, local and regional school committee and housing authority in the May 7 annual town election.

Town Clerk Linda M. Lincoln said the names of two incumbents, Police Chief Ross B. Ackerman and Water Commissioner Robert R. Barnes, would not be on the ballot.

Mrs. Lincoln said that Mr. Ackerman, a candidate for re-election to a three-year term as constable, failed to submit a sufficient number of signatures of registered voters. Mr. Barnes, she said, had not submitted his nomination papers before the 5 p.m. Monday filing deadline.

The town clerk said it was her understanding that both men would seek additional three-year terms on the basis of write-in votes.

In the contest for a three-year term on the Board of Selectmen, incumbent Beverly A. Lund, chairman, faces challenger Rudolf Heller of 18 Common St. Mr. Heller was unsuccessful in his bid to be appointed to a vacancy on the Brookfield School Committee in July 2006.

Donald D. Faugno of 8 East Main St., chairman of the Advisory Committee, is challenging incumbent William J. Gillmeister for a three-year term on the Brookfield School Committee.

A two-way contest for a three-year term on the Tantasqua Regional School Committee pits Doreen Gemme of 7 School House Cross Road against Peter S. O'Connell of 7 Hayden Ave.

The only other ballot contest has Holly Chisholm of 23A Pine Lane challenging incumbent Joseph W. Gadbois for a five-year term on the Brookfield Housing Authority.

Candidates running unopposed include incumbent moderator William J. Frangiamore, one-year term; incumbent town clerk Linda M. Lincoln, three-year term; incumbent assessor Brenda C. McElroy, three-year term; Tyler A. Kelsch of 26 Town Farm Road, a two-year unexpired term on the Brookfield School Committee; Kermit Eaton, incumbent member of the Planning Board, five-year term; and Michael P. Seery, incumbent member of the Board of Health, three-year term.

Also unopposed are Kim Longe of 13 Boyes Ave., two-year unexpired term on the Board of Health; incumbents Sally M. Brown and Barbara Steadman, three-year terms on the Board of Trustees of the Merrick Public Library; incumbent Peter Masuzzo, three-year term on the Cemetery Commission; and incumbent Joseph F. Murray, three-year term as constable.

The annual town election will be held from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. May 7 in the banquet hall of Town Hall. The final opportunity to register to vote in either the annual town election or the annual town meeting will be from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. April 17 in the office of the town clerk in the town hall.
