Four organ recitals have been scheduled as part of this year's Oregon Bach Festival The Oregon Bach Festival is an annual celebration of the works of Johann Sebastian Bach, held in Eugene, Oregon in late June and early July. It was co-founded by German conductor Helmuth Rilling and the former president of the American Choral Directors Association, Royce Saltzman, .

Well-known local organists will be featured in a series of three free lunch-hour programs, leading up to an evening performance by German organist Wolfgang Zerer.

Zerer's mostly-Bach recital will be at 8 p.m. July 9 at Central Lutheran Church, 1857 Potter St.

His program will open with Toccata toccata (təkä`tə, tō–) [Ital.,=touched], type of musical composition. Early examples were written for various instruments, but the best-known form of toccata originated about the beginning of the 17th cent.  in F (BWV 156) by Dietrich Buxtehude and conclude with Toccata and Fugue Toccata and Fugue may refer to several classical compositions

It also includes Toccata septima by Georg Muffat, a 17th century Austrian-German composer and organist, and several other works by Bach. These are Sonata in D minor (BWV 527), 11 variations on the chorale melody "Sei gegrusset Jesu gutig," three settings of "Allein Gott in der Hoh' sei Ehr" and two pieces from "The Well-Tempered Clavier": Prelude in D Minor (BWV 877/1) and Fugue in D Minor (BWV 853/2).

Zerer is professor of organ at the College of Music and Theater in Hamburg. He also teaches at the College of Music in Groningen, The Netherlands.

Born in Passau, Germany, in 1961, Zerer studied organ, conducting and harpischord at the College of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna, Austria. He also studied with Ton Koopman in Amsterdam (harpischord) and Ludger Lohmann in Stuttgart, Germany, (organ).

The festival's Organ Interlude series will begin at noon June 27 with ElRay Stewart-Cook performing at Central Lutheran Church with soprano Siri Vik and contralto contralto (kəntrăl`tō), female voice of lowest pitch. Originally, the term denoted a second voice set against (contra) a high voice (alto); thus, a second high voice.  Patricia Dewey. His program consists of compositions by Bach and movements from Giambattista Pergolesi's Stabat Mater.

The series will continue at noon July 1, with Betty Jean Bartholomew performing at the Episcopal Church of the Resurrection, 3925 Hilyard St.

Her program includes Three Italian Sonatas for Trumpet and Organ (1675) by Girolamo Fantini, and Psalms for Trumpet and Organ (1994) by Daniel Pinkham, with Stephen Dunn.

Barbara Baird and Julia Brown will team up for the third and final noon concert, on July 6 in Beall Concert Hall at the University of Oregon The University of Oregon is a public university located in Eugene, Oregon. The university was founded in 1876, graduating its first class two years later. , Johann Heinrich Loeffler, Franz Schubert, June Kirlin, Raynor Brown and Adolph Friedrich Hesse.
