SPRINGFIELD - Gateway Mall Gateway Mall may refer to:
  • Gateway Fashion Mall, an enclosed mall in Bismark, North Dakota
  • Gateway District an open-air mall in Salt Lake City, Utah
  • The strip of land in downtown St. Louis from the Gateway Arch to Union Station
  • Gateway Mall (Springfield, Oregon)
continues its turn-around plan with a string of new store openings, just in time for the peak holiday shopping season.

Bubble Bath and Body Boutique, formerly in Fifth Street Market, will be opening this weekend or Monday, mall General Manager Ron Glover Glov´er

Cosette Bridal will open in early December, Tio Alex Mexican Kitchen opened on Monday, following Children's Dream Rooms, a furniture store that opened in mid-November. These store openings come on the heels of California Kids Wear, which opened earlier this fall and offers children's clothing in sizes infant through 6X. Another new tenant, Gotta got·ta

Gateway's two biggest grand openings this year occurred within six months of each other: Kohl's department store in the spring and Ashley Furniture Homestore in the fall. "We've done something that hasn't been done in the industry in some time, opened two anchors in less than five months," Glover said.

He came to the mall two years ago after a career of turning around under-performing shopping centers shopping center, a concentration of retail, service, and entertainment enterprises designed to serve the surrounding region. The modern shopping center differs from its antecedents—bazaars and marketplaces—in that the shops are usually amalgamated into , he said. "This is number 10."

One of his first steps after coming to Gateway was to help set a direction for the mall "as a family fun environment," Glover said.

The mall already had movie theaters. A little over a year ago, he said, "We brought in a brand new children's play area." The mall also has bumper cars bumper cars npl (US) → autos or coches mpl de choque

and, earlier this year, added Glow Golf, a glow-in-the-dark golf course.

The emphasis on a family fun identity has helped attract new tenants, such as California Kids Wear and Children's Dream Rooms, Glover said. And bringing in Kohls and Ashley gave the mall a huge boost, he added. "When you have those two solid anchors, contemporary anchors, so many people want to be part of that."

Along with adding new tenants to the mall, Glover said Gateway has installed a new network of security cameras in response to security concerns, and is just finishing a general sprucing up, with new carpeting, parking lot work, some new doors and improved lighting.

"We're removing the neon neon (nē`ŏn) [Gr.,=new], gaseous chemical element; symbol Ne; at. no. 10; at. wt. 20.179; m.p. −248.67°C;; b.p. −246.048°C;; density 0.8999 grams per liter at STP; valence 0. Neon is a colorless, odorless, and tasteless gas. ," he said, and replacing it with softer, more friendly lighting. "It's similar to what you'd have in your home."

Most of the new tenants that moved have filled vacant space, rather than replacing existing tenants, Glover said, with the result that the mall has seen double-digit increases in occupancy for each of the past two years. Gateway does not disclose occupancy rates Noun 1. occupancy rate - the percentage of all rental units (as in hotels) are occupied or rented at a given time
pct, per centum, percent, percentage - a proportion in relation to a whole (which is usually the amount per hundred)
, but so far the mall is exceeding all the goals that have been set for it, Glover said.
