Several events slated for Veterans Day.

The following events are planned to commemorate Veterans Day today and Saturday:

Cross Plaza ceremony

Eugene Bible College A Bible college is an institution of higher education in which the course of study specializes in biblical studies. This curriculum differs from the focus on academic programs of Christian liberal arts colleges or research universities, which may include, but are not limited to,  will host a ceremony to honor veterans at the college's Cross Plaza at 10:45 a.m. today.

Veterans breakfast

American Legion American Legion, national association of male and female war veterans, founded (1919) in Paris. Membership is open to veterans of World Wars I and II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War.  Bay Area Post 34, located at 1421 Airport Way, will host an annual Veterans Day breakfast on Saturday featuring a military guest speaker.

The cost is $5 and $2.50 for children. For information, call John Martin, 756-5314.

Veterans dinner

The Veteran Recovery Coalition will hold an afternoon dinner for veterans and others on Saturday from noon to 4 p.m. at the Veterans Memorial Building, 1626 Willamette St. The cost is $5 per person for veterans and their families, $8 for others. The day includes a speech from retired Brigadier Gen. Norm Hoffman, a color guard and music by the Elizabeth Cable Band. The meal includes turkey, ham, steaks and trimmings.

The American Legion - Veterans of Foreign Wars and Veterans Memorial Association will host two speakers at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Veterans Memorial Building, 1626 Willamette St., Eugene.

 will speak about his book "American Nightingale," the true story of Lt. Frances Slanger, a nurse in the 45th Field Hospital who wrote a passionate letter praising the average American GI only hours before she was killed in action.

Springfield parade

The Lane County Veterans Day Parade Association will hold its seventh annual parade, themed "Guardians of Freedom," in Springfield at 1:30 p.m. Saturday.

The route begins at Mohawk and Centennial, goes south to Main Street and west to Pioneer Parkway.

Florence parade

Florence will hold its first Veterans Day Parade through Old Town to the Siuslaw Port parking lot on Saturday beginning at 1 p.m. There will be military static displays, vintage military vehicles Military vehicles include all land combat and transportation vehicles, excluding rail-based, which are designed for or are in significant use by military forces.
