"The light bulb went off" in my head when I heard this stuff was chitosan," Pollack said. "I thought I ought to have this tested for lead. It came up hot, so I faxed the results to the D.A. and said, 'Hey take a look at this. It's not only an illegal business practice, but also a Prop. 65 case."

Proposition 65, enacted in 1986, requires warning labels on products or places containing chemicals determined to cause cancer or reproductive harm, including lead.
