Schiffer/U*S* Kids Scholarship Races at Long Beach State University in California California (kăl'ĭfôr`nyə), most populous state in the United States, located in the Far West; bordered by Oregon (N), Nevada and, across the Colorado River, Arizona (E), Mexico (S), and the Pacific Ocean (W). .

Go! They were off and running to win a $1,500 college scholarship. On the following pages, you'll read about five kids who took home this great prize.

Four runners passed him, but Visal Nip knew he still had a chance to win. That's because Visal was running in a predicted time race.

To win the race, Visal did not have to be the fastest runner. He had to finish closer to his predicted time than the other runners finished to their times.

Before the race, Vsal guessed how long it would take him to run the race. At the finish line, he was only two seconds off his predicted time. He was the winner!

"I didn't mind getting passed by other runners," Visal explained with a smile. "I just knew I had to keep my pace."

Nisaa Abdul-Rashim was confident that she would win. After all, she had already been to the Olympics--the Junior Olympics Olympics Sports medicine An international competition among (traditionally) nonprofessional athletes trained in a particular summer or winter sport, which is held every 4 yrs in a selected city. See Paralympics, Special Olympics, World Medical Games. , that is! Nisaa was very excited when she found out about the Eric Schiffer/U*S* Kids Scholarship Races. She knew that she would do well. She paced herself at one speed-fast!

"I ran my fastest and was the first one across the finish line," Nisaa explained. Nisaa hopes to go to college on a track scholarship. She wants to be a doctor. By winning her predicted time race, she has a good start.

Bunvandy Mok was nervous. Many people were watching her race. "I was anxious to get it over with," Bunvandy admitted.

Being nervous made Bunvandy run faster than her predicted time. But her time was still close enough to win first place!

Bunvandy doesn't always realize how fast she can run. At her first cross-country race last year, she thought she would finish dead last. She gave her best effort and came in eighth place.

Running has made her more confident in herself. "I have been getting better every year," Bunvandy said.

Bunvandy, Visal, and their friend Saron Sruoch each won scholarships at the races At The Races is a British television channel, originally co-founded with Channel 4, but now owned by a partnership between British Sky Broadcasting, Arena Leisure PLC and 28 (out of the 59) UK racecourses. . They live in the same neighborhood. They are members of the same track team. They are also from the same country-Cambodia.

Their families left Cambodia to become citizens of the United States United States, officially United States of America, republic (2005 est. pop. 295,734,000), 3,539,227 sq mi (9,166,598 sq km), North America. They also agree that running track has helped them get used to life in America.

Their teacher, Ms. Hoagland, has helped a lot, too. "She's our coach, and she picks us up and takes us to practice," said Bunvandy. The kids call Ms. Hoagland their "running mom (1) (Messaging-Oriented Middleware) See messaging middleware.

Aaron Grant Cheak was late for his race. The officials did not get mad at him, though. He was late because his dad was fighting the forest fires This is a list of notorious forest fires: North America
