"Traditionally, this type of event is held in larger centres in Canada and the U.S. But with the increased activity in the investment sector in Saskatchewan, I am encouraged by the opportunity to be a part of it. Investment Future Forum will create interest, attract attention and make the investment environment in this province more exciting than ever."
"For funds like ours, that's a welcome sign of growth."
Selected companies will be seeking $500,000 to $10 million in capital for start-up or growth. Ventures predominately in the agricultural value-added, biotechnology, forestry, information technology, mining and manufacturing sectors are preferred.
"The forum is a step towards the goal of seeing Saskatchewan's increased investment activity trend continue: by creating the opportunity for companies in the start-up and expansion phase to interact with investors, we are, in effect, fast-tracking the economic growth process," Legin says.
"Saskatchewan has such a strong potential for continued growth that this event is a natural, at this time, and well into the future," concurs Zach Douglas, senior vice-president, investments with CIC. "Investment Future Forum is just one more way we can ensure that continued economic stimulation is always 'top of mind' in this province."
"MacDonald and Associates, Canada's VC experts, recently reported that while the rest of the country is in a downturn for disbursements and financings, activity has actually increased in Saskatchewan compared to last year," Douglas continues.
"That's good news," he adds, "and we're committed to seeing that trend continue in the province. It's a new approach for us, and we feel confident that it's going to make a positive, and lasting contribution."
