Set for steak out; Pied Piper: Ormesby Bank, Middlesbrough.

DRIVING home one night I spotted a sign for sizzling steak at the Pied Piper on Ormesby Bank ... one for the future, I thought.

So a few weeks later, really wanting some red meat we thought we would give the place a try.

The menu is quite extensive, everything from burgers to chicken to a good selection of steaks.

We ordered our drinks and paid for our food at the bar and were then shown to our table by the helpful staff We decided to have a starter and settled for a plate of nachos to share.

We went for the loaded chilli nachos which was a large plate of nachos with sour cream, tomato salsa and topped with a portion of chilli con carne. The nachos were lovely and crispy and went perfectly with the sour cream and tangy tomato.

This was all finished off by the chilli which had a good hot spicy kick to it.

We both plumped for a steak for mains.

My wife chose from the topped steak section - a Philly Melt, 10oz rib eye steak topped with mushrooms, onion and melted cheese accompanied with fried onions, tomato and a portion of fries.

As it had been a while since I had had a steak, I went for a 16oz rump steak from the saucy steak section - with sizzling hickory smoked sauce, again accompanied by fried onion, tomato and fries..

We also had an extra portion of fries for our little daughter and a side order of fried mushrooms.

Both steaks came to the table on a hot sizzling platter which really kept them warm all the way through the meal.

My wife enjoyed her rib eye, although she wished she had gone for one with a sauce for some extra flavour.

My steak came as two 8oz portions and not a large 16oz serving..

I ordered a large portion because I like my steak medium rare and with a large steak you do get it lovely and pink in the middle - but the two small steaks were not.

On the bright side, though, the sauce really complemented the meat and really lifted the meal. Next time I will make sure I ask for one piece of meat.

All in all we had an enjoyable meal which was very reasonably priced and we will go back again for another try..
