Sessions highlight functional fillers. (Meetings).

Intertech announced that its annual international business development conference, Functional Fillers for Plastics 2002, will be held September 18-20 at the Wyndham Bristol Place Airport Hotel in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

Conference co-chairs will be Chris DeArmitt, Electrolux Core Technology & Innovations, and Roy Goodman, Imerys Minerals. Rengarajan Ramesh, vice president of technology for A. Schulman, and Donald Vesey, supervisor of plastics composites and textiles for DaimlerChrysler, will give keynote presentations at the conference.

This year's international conference, the tenth in the series, will bring together both users and producers of reinforcing fillers for thermoplastics, as well as thermosets thermosets, materials that can not be softened on heating. In thermosetting polymers, the polymer chains are joined (or cross-linked) by intermolecular bonding. Thermosets are usually supplied as partially polymerized or as monomer-polymer mixtures. , to focus on the new opportunities emerging for increased use of functional fillers in polymer systems.

, nanocomposites, natural fibers and other materials will be discussed. Users will learn about new fillers and new filler grades, and also new techniques for maximizing benefits from each material.

Producers will hear about new market opportunities, as well as learn new ways to modify, classify, micronize micronize

and add value to their products. Other sessions will address surface treatments, compounding and blending.

Participants will obtain a complete picture of the functional filler market, and have the opportunity to discuss key issues with speakers and fellow attendees from around the world.

Tabletop exhibits will also be included in this conference.

In addition, two optional pro-conference workshops are planned lot September 18. Roger Rothon of Rothon Consultants will lead a seminar on "Hot topics in filler technology," and Christopher Liauw of Manchester Metropolitan University History
