Serving the vulnerable.


A conference seeking global health care solutions to providing services to vulnerable populations will be held at Auckland's University of Technology in mid January January: see month. . It is organised by the Community Service and Development Trust of New Zealand New Zealand (zē`lənd), island country (2005 est. pop. 4,035,000), 104,454 sq mi (270,534 sq km), in the S Pacific Ocean, over 1,000 mi (1,600 km) SE of Australia. The capital is Wellington; the largest city and leading port is Auckland. , in partnership with the United States-based National Nursing Centers Consortium.

The emphasis will be on population and community-based health care, health promotion and preventive care Preventive care is a set of measures taken in advance of symptoms to prevent illness or injury. This type of care is best exemplified by routine physical examinations and immunizations. The emphasis is on preventing illnesses before they occur. See also

, nurse-managed and nurse-led initiatives, and public health programmes. Presentations will be given by health professionals working with under-served communities throughout the world. The conference goals include increasing awareness of the nature and extent of global health care; social service opportunities and solutions to serving the vulnerable; sharing best practice models; identifying strategies to share solutions; and establishing global alliances and partnerships.

Keynote keynote /key·note/ (ke´not) in homeopathy, the characteristic property of a drug that indicates its use in treating a similar symptom of disease.  panels will address topics such as turning client voices into strengths and action; non-government solutions to serving the vulnerable; and the politics of providing care.
