Service will honor mom, children who were killed.

NEWPORT - A service to honor the memory of Mary Ann Longo and her three children, killed last month for reasons unknown, will take place Friday at a local memorial for fishermen lost at sea.

The service for Longo, 35, and her children - Zachary Michael, 4, Sadie Ann, 3, and Madison, 2 - will be sponsored by My Sisters' Place My Sisters' Place is a domestic violence, sexual assault and stalking prevention and intervention program serving Lincoln County Oregon. Begun in 1978 as a means to assist women and their children fleeing domestic violence, it now offers shelter and advocacy, safety planning, community , a local organization that helps women and children who are victims of domestic and sexual violence.

"We're doing it because it is the right thing to do," said Valerie Brandtjen, a spokeswoman for the organization.

She said people in her organization work with many women and children, felt bad about what happened to the Longos and decided it would be appropriate to have the memorial service.

Brandtjen wouldn't say whether Mary Jane Longo had sought help from My Sisters' Place.
